Our Temporary Holiday Community Market Associate proactively facilitates the distribution of food to our 420+ nonprofit agencies and partners by providing an excellent shopping experience at the Food Bank’s Costco-style shopping floor during the holiday months November and December. A successful candidate must provide excellent customer service, own the aesthetics of the shopping floor, manage daily volunteers, own the process for creating shopping orders including ensuring orders are 100% accurate. Heaving lifting is required as you will be responsible for stocking the floor and helping agencies load orders into their vehicles and other as assigned. We are seeking someone who is excited to proactively facilitate the distribution of food and non-food products to authorized agencies and provide an excellent shopping experience. This a full-time temporary position. The timeframe for this job is October 7, 2024 – January 17, 2025.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Minimum 1 year client-facing customer service experience in retail or wholesale distribution

Interest in and commitment to the mission of the Food Bank.

Excellent customer service skills, including but not limited to: Empathy, tact, patience, troubleshooting, and problem-solving. Ability to effectively represent the Food Bank to its donors and agencies.

Comfort in navigating difficult conversations with external partners – generally related to product limits and billing issues. Able to ensure compliance with Food Bank regulations, while developing and maintaining strong relationships with our partners.

Basic computer skills and the ability to learn the Food Banks’ computerized inventory distribution program.

Detail oriented, ability to analyze spreadsheets and interpret data.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This position is located in a warehouse environment with refrigeration. Exposure to weather and changing climate is a feature of the work environment. The following physical abilities are necessary and essential functions of this position:

Ability to withstand changes in climate and weather.

Ability to walk, stand, bend, stoop and sit for a minimum of 7 hours per day.

Ability to regularly lift, carry, push, and pull items weighing up to 70 pounds.

Ability to read, write, and speak in English; basic counting and math skills.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

This is a full-time, non-exempt temporary position with an expected end date of January 17, 2025. This role works onsite at our facility in Oakland, CA. The hours are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m (7.5 hour workday, 1 hour unpaid lunch). The non-negotiable starting salary is $26.19 per hour.

Seasonal staff are not eligible for paid vacation or holidays, or to participate in food bank health plans. Entitled to all federal, state and local required benefits, including paid sick leave under the Healthy Workplace Healthy Family Act of 2014/Measure FF.
