1,200 Billable Hours + Top Salary and Benefits + Fully Remote = Happy Lawyers

The Position

Workplace Legal has an immediate opening for an experienced employment litigator. Our business is booming, and our Director of Litigation needs someone to assist her and serve in the role of “second chair” on cases and trials.

In this position, your clients will be large corporations, small businesses, startups, and high-level executives and professionals. Yes, you read that right…we represent both plaintiffs and defendants here at Workplace Legal. Your responsibilities will include interviewing and meeting with clients, developing litigation strategy, performing legal research, drafting pleadings, managing discovery, and drafting and responding to dispositive motions. You will get to take and defend depositions, argue motions, prepare witnesses and experts, and attend Labor Commissioner hearings, arbitrations, mediations, and trials.

About Workplace Legal

Workplace Legal is an AV-rated law firm of “Super Lawyers” that represents corporate and individual clients across California in complex labor, employment, and HR matters. We litigate, arbitrate, and mediate single- and multi-plaintiff employment law cases, and PAGA cases, throughout the state. We also provide day-to-day advice and counsel to clients on all types of HR and employment law matters, from creating compliant HR infrastructures to drafting executive employment agreements to advising on difficult employee discipline/termination issues to negotiating executive severance packages to conducting workplace investigations.

Why Join Workplace Legal?

Our lawyers work on complex employment law cases and interact with smart, demanding clients. We do “big law” quality work at Workplace Legal because our lawyers come from prestigious “big law” firms. But they left “big law” because they grew weary of the rat race. They wanted a different way to practice law, while continuing to do smart, strategic “big law” quality legal work.

The result was Workplace Legal.

Founded on January 1, 2018, Workplace Legal exists to give smart, ambitious, and business-minded employment lawyers an alternative to the “big law” rat race. We pay well, we offer full benefits, we offer a path to Shareholder status, and we have flexible billable hour requirements (average is 1,200 billable hours per year). We also are a fully remote firm, which we’ve been since our founding – long before COVID forced other law firms to pretend to allow remote work. And we invest heavily in technology to make our lawyers more efficient and productive.

Requirements

1. You must be licensed to practice law in California

2. You must have 2+ years of employment litigation experience

3. You must like to write and be able to write – we will ask for writing samples.

4. You must be creative, flexible, and able to work independently and collaboratively

5. You must know how to deliver, and actually deliver, “big law” caliber legal services

6. You must have a dog (okay, maybe this isn’t technically a requirement, but…)

Salary and Benefits

In accordance with California’s pay transparency law, the expected total annual compensation for this position is between $125,000 - $200,000 for just a 1,200 billable hour commitment. Your actual pay will depend on your experience, your annual billable hours, your efficiency (how much of your time is written off vs. billed to clients), and other job-related factors as permitted by law.

Workplace Legal offers a full suite of benefits, including: fully paid health insurance (with prescription drug coverage), dental insurance, vision insurance, life insurance, and AD&D insurance; a JP Morgan/Vestwell 401(K) plan with employer matching and profit sharing; unlimited paid time off; a monthly stipend of $135 towards your personal cell phone and home internet service; fully paid bar and MCLE expenses; and a comprehensive training and development program. Oh, and did we mention, the ability to work from home, the beach, Oracle Park, or anywhere else?
