95% of our work coming from residential.5% commercial (apartment, retail, etc.).
75% of our work is in Alameda County, and 25% is in Contra Costa County - residence in Alameda County highly preferred for commuting life/work balance reasons.

Primary job functions:
Estimate residential reconstruction of fire-damaged houses (and a little commercial).
Ability to understand structural problems and their solutions - fires damage buildings in ways that aren't present on remodel projects.
Attention to detail and ability to juggle multiple, ongoing, complex projects. We have 20-30 projects going at any given time, and you'll have 10-15 projects that you'll be juggling as they move from initial site survey to estimating, through engineering drawings (outsourced), and then to revisions and updates as the project matures.
The estimating must be phrased in an industry-specific software (Xactimate) that we will send you to training on, so no experience needed in that - it is its own system and the trick is to learn how to operate the software to the company's advantage and play it like a musical instrument as we propose costs and solutions to insurance adjusters - this is a position that will be rewarding for a person who is competitive and cunning in nature, with high attention to detail - there's a LOT of detail. If you're a "big picture" person that doesn't love details and have a good memory, please self select out?
Know yourself! If you're used to non-detailed, very general estimates that lack detail, this is NOT the place for you - a typical estimate is broken down into listing all components of a project, down to light switches and so forth and might wind up being 20-40 pages. It isn't terribly difficult once you get it, but some people are just not detail oriented, and that's an indication that this might not be the right fit for a candidate - please help us find the right person based on this paragraph!
