Livestock Guardian Dog Helper & Ranch Hand

California, San francisco bay area
Aplica ya

Are you someone who enjoys the outdoors, values connection with animals, and is curious about working with dogs in a meaningful way? We’re looking for a reliable, grounded person to help care for our four giant breed livestock guardian dogs and support our small, growing property.

If you're someone who appreciates a peaceful, low-key setting and enjoys spending time with animals, you’ll likely feel at home here. We’re looking for a person who’s interested in joining a thoughtful team and being part of something that can grow over time. No previous experience is required — just comfort around large dogs, a willingness to learn, and a calm, consistent presence.

To ensure safety and familiarity, there will be an initial training period focused on getting to know the dogs. During this time, shifts will be scheduled on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday—you won’t be expected to work all three during the training period, but those will be the available options. We’ll ease you into the responsibilities at a comfortable pace, and as you grow more confident, additional days may become available.

This role is physically active and requires someone comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions. You’ll join the dogs on adventurous walks across varied terrain, so a sense of curiosity and readiness for outdoor exploration is a plus.

Your main responsibilities will be caring for and managing the dogs, with occasional assistance around the property and other animals.

Job Duties:

Caring for the livestock guardian dogs, including but not limited to:

Bathing and grooming

Daily walks and exercise

Feeding and monitoring nutrition

Supervising play and social interaction between dogs and livestock

Administering basic medical care

Monitoring health and behavior, reporting any concerns

Maintaining clean and safe living areas for the dogs

Occasionally assisting with feeding and care of goats, chickens, and barn cats

Helping with light property maintenance as needed

Also gardening and expanding gardens. Harvesting and preserving is also an optional route that needs help.

We value trust and self-motivation, as some tasks will require working independently and taking initiative.

We’re a small, growing team with four working dogs, goats, and chickens. Our property has room to expand, and we value the ideas and suggestions of those who join us as we continue to develop both the land and our community. We’re looking for someone who wants to grow alongside us in a supportive environment where people are truly valued.

We offer compensation that reflects your experience and how well you fit the role, and we aim to ensure the right person feels fairly rewarded and appreciated. Opportunities to discuss housing may become available over time.

Because finding the right fit is important to us and our schedule can be busy, the hiring process may take some time. We appreciate your patience and will strive to keep it moving as smoothly and quickly as possible.

If this sounds like a good fit, please send a brief introduction along with your resume and references via email to [Your Contact Info] with the job title in the subject line. We’d love to hear about where you are in life, your goals, and what you’re hoping to do. We're aiming to bring someone on soon, once the right person comes along and things are lined up on our end.
