North Light, a full-service restaurant and cocktail bar in Oakland’s Temescal neighborhood, is hiring a prep person.
We are hiring for 4 weekday shifts, which will total 18-20 hours a week. The approximate schedule is 10am-2:30pm, though we are flexible with the timing, provided the work is done by 4:30pm.
Open since 2019, North Light has won Best Cocktails in the East Bay two years running and has also been awarded Best Bartender in the East Bay the last three years. We were recently named Best Bar of 2024 by Nosh.
We serve seasonal Californian fare paired with an ambitious cocktail program in a friendly, warm setting.
Our health insurance program, available after 90 days of employment, is through Kaiser. We use Guideline for our 401k hosting and Gusto for our payroll, with direct deposit occurring on the 5th and 20th of each month.
The right candidate is capable of working alone, with a sense of urgency and attention to detail, for extended periods of time.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Prepare fresh juices, syrups, garnishes, and prepared cocktail batches, with a keen eye and ability to follow precise recipes and measurements.
Maintain an organized and sanitary prep area in accordance with health and safety standards.
Manage ingredient inventory, in tandem with the Bar Lead and Manager, and ensure par levels are maintained, and that product is properly labeled and stored.
Work efficiently and independently to accomplish tasks within a set time frame.
REQUIREMENTS:
Excellent attention to detail and precision.
Ability to work alone while maintaining urgency and focus.
Ability to lift and transport heavy items (up to 40lbs), such as kegs, cases of produce, and liquor deliveries.
Ability to carry items up and down stairs multiple times a shift.
Excellent communication skills.
Previous experience in bar prep, kitchen prep, or beverage production is a plus, but not required.
North Light is located on Telegraph Avenue (a major bus route) and is a 10 minute walk from MacArthur BART stop. There is ample, non-metered parking in the surrounding area.
