About the position:
Nisei is looking for individuals that are highly motivated, possess a positive attitude, dedicated to the hospitality industry, humble, team players, a desire to learn, respectful and honest. Prospective hires must have a minimum of 2 years cooking experience to apply.
We are looking for a Pastry Chef de Partie with a desire to learn about Japanese desserts and help us push the envelope to what Japanese food can be. The job will include learning about Japanese confections, mochi making, popular Japanese desserts and basic baking & pastry duties. The Pastry Chef de Partie will report to our current head of Pastry department Ellie Estrada, who has spent many years working for Atelier Crenn & many other notable restaurants.
Nisei is proud to source ingredients from the best local farms and purveyors the Bay Area has to offer. Nisei frequently visits farms and wineries for staff education and to establish an honest relationship with each purveyor.

About Nisei:
Nisei is the premier fine dining Californian Japanese establishment in San Francisco. Started in 2019 as a pop-up, Nisei has evolved over several years before establishing its home in Russian hill at the previous La Folie restaurant. The format of the menu will be a tasting menu and the style of cuisine can be described as modern innovative take on Japanese American cuisine with a base in Washoku (Japanese home-cooking). Owner David Yoshimura (Californios, Ishikawa, WD50) is also a certified Sommelier and stresses the importance of being a well-rounded hospitality professional through hands on mentorship for each employee.
Next door, Nisei also owns a craft cocktail bar named Iris, which boasts an impressive cocktail program.
