About Us:

At Fifty Vara, we’re a high-energy California-centric kitchen and bar celebrating the vibrant flavors of the Golden State. From locally sourced produce to craft beers and our curated cocktail and wine lists, we’re passionate about delivering elevated food and beverage menus with a fresh and creative twist.

The Role:

As our Sous Chef, you’ll be the right hand to our Executive Chef, helping to lead our culinary team in crafting exceptional, seasonal menus. You’ll play a key role in kitchen operations, staff training, and ensuring every plate leaving the kitchen embodies our high standards and San Francisco spirit.

What You’ll Do:

Assist in creating and executing menus that showcase seasonal, locally and thoughtfully sourced ingredients.

Lead and inspire the kitchen team during service, maintaining energy and focus.

Collaborate with the Executive Chef on new dishes, specials, and pairings with our craft beers and spirits.

Oversee prep, events, inventory, and food cost management.

Guide, manage, mentor kitchen staff.

Uphold the highest standards of food safety, quality, and consistency.

What We’re Looking For:

Experience as a Sous Chef or strong experience in a fast-paced, scratch kitchen.

A passion for San Francisco’s culinary scene and seasonal cooking.

Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and mentor team members.

Excellent organizational and multitasking skills under pressure.

Food safety certification and a commitment to maintaining a clean, efficient kitchen.

Personal accountability.
