We are a fast-growing meal prep service based in the Oakland/Emeryville area, specializing in delivering customizable, healthy meals directly to homes and offices. We’re seeking a motivated, reliable, and experienced Lead Line Cook/Manager to join and oversee our culinary team!

About the Role:

As the Lead Line Cook/Manager, you will ensure smooth day-to-day kitchen operations, maintain food quality, and manage kitchen staff to achieve the highest standards in food preparation and cleanliness. You’ll take charge when the owner is unavailable and will lead efforts to improve efficiency, safety, and sanitation in our kitchen.

Key Responsibilities:

Kitchen Management:

Supervise, train, and support kitchen staff (prep cooks, line cooks, etc.) to ensure quality food production.

Enforce health department regulations and food safety standards.

Manage food inventory, minimize waste, and ensure proper rotation of ingredients.

Ensure kitchen equipment is in good working order; arrange for repairs and servicing as needed.

Develop and implement effective cleaning schedules and procedures to maintain a spotless kitchen environment.

Communicate regularly with the business owner about kitchen operations, staff performance, and any issues that arise.

Handle staff scheduling, timesheets, and time-off requests.

Team Leadership & Development:

Lead by example, fostering a positive, productive work environment.

De-escalate conflicts and maintain a collaborative atmosphere among kitchen staff.

Monitor staff performance and address any issues proactively.

Ensure staff adherence to operational standards and cleanliness protocols.

Culinary Excellence:

Oversee food preparation and ensure that finished products meet our high-quality standards.

Develop and innovate new menu items that align with our healthy meal service.

Update recipe books and kitchen procedures as needed.

Maintain food quality throughout all stages of preparation and production.

Take initiative to address kitchen issues without needing direction.

Operational Tasks:

Ensure the kitchen is fully stocked with necessary supplies and that equipment is used safely.

Place and receive food and supply orders.

Maintain cleanliness in all areas, including kitchen workspaces, dining areas, refrigerators, walk-in freezers, and pantries.

Administrative Tasks:

Manage food costs and inventory tracking.

Report any operational challenges or issues to the owner.

Utilize email and Excel for communication and reporting purposes.

Ensure proper documentation of processes and updates.

Qualifications:

Certified in Food Safety Management (required).

Proven experience in leading and managing a kitchen team.

Strong organizational and multitasking skills, with attention to detail.

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and handle food safely.

Basic conversational English required (proficiency in other languages is a plus).

Ability to drive (preferred).

Compensation and Benefits:

Competitive pay: $20-24/hr, depending on experience.

Paid time off: Includes vacation and sick leave for full-time employees (after a probationary period) and sick pay for part-time employees.

Free employee meals during shifts.

Work Schedule:

Shift: 4:00 am – End of shift.

Work Days: Sunday through Thursday.

Days off: Friday and Saturday.
