Paxton Gate has created a new, exciting position on our team. In the role of Instructor and Events Lead you will be responsible for unearthing over 30 years of archives to reveal the plethora of classes and workshops, kits and custom products, and other curiosities that we’ve offered over the years, and reintroducing them to the public. You will be the instructor for these courses and eventually train and oversee other teachers. You will also help to relaunch Paxton Gate After Hours and other specialty events. Finally, you will assist in marketing our newly relaunched courses and products through social and other media, reporting directly to the founder and working with our Marketing Manager. This is a multifaceted position that requires an adaptable and creative individual.
A superbly qualified candidate will have the following skills:
+ The ability to conduct classes and workshops to small groups of students. In this role, you will be the “head instructor” eventually training other staff members to teach as well.
+ Share with us ways you’ve worked with groups of people in a training or tutorial capacity.
+ Show us how your personal experience might translate to instructing Paxton Gate courses.
+ Experience or expertise running events, parties, and/or openings.
+ You must be a “crafty” person. In this role you will plant terrariums, spread insects, and much more while guiding students in creating their own Paxton Gate products. Note: You need not have specific experience in these classes, but you must possess the aptitude for doing so.
+ Social media or other marketing experience. This need not be professional experience; present your case.
+ Experience or knowledge related to event planning and/or schedule management.
+ An excellent understanding of spreadsheets, Microsoft Office, and other organizational software. (Applicants will be tested.)
+ Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
+ A genuine interest and enthusiasm in the Paxton Gate brand.
Other skills that are beneficial but are not required:
Retail sales or management experience
Hands-on experience specifically related to our classes and workshops: Insect spreading/mounting, taxidermy, terrarium building, Kokedama building, epiphyte mounting, and more!
Graphic design abilities (Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.)
The position is full time and permanent, but since it is new, we imagine the role will evolve over time. Starting pay will range from $26 to $30 per hour based on applicable experience and our full benefits package including healthcare, a matching retirement plan, paid holidays, and more!
