Position Description:

Northern Light School is seeking an energetic, collaborative, and engaged Extended Care Assistant to join our diverse learning community for the 2025-2026 academic year.

The position is part-time (12 hours a week) and offers a salary commensurate with experience. The days for this role are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday. The hours for Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays are from 3:30 pm to 6:00 pm. Wednesday hours are from 2:00 pm until 6:00 pm.

This position works under the direction of the Extended Care Lead and reports to the Head of School. This individual will also work in close collaboration with administrative staff and other extended care staff.

The primary role of the Extended Care Assistant consists of supervising and supporting students in our afterschool program. This staff member is expected to maintain confidentiality, exhibit professional behavior, and display a positive attitude.

The right candidate for this role is expected to understand and support Northern Light School’s mission, school culture, and operational practices. This includes but is not limited to forming positive relationships with students, familiarity with school guidelines and policies, and timely and professional communication with families and colleagues.

Qualifications & Skills:

● 3+ years experience working with children

● Excellent communication and organizational skills

● Familiarity working in diverse schools

● Highly developed interpersonal skills including discretion, patience, and courtesy ● Strong ability to effectively prioritize and juggle multiple concurrent projects ● Familiarity with general clerical duties

General Duties and Responsibilities:

● Supervise students in the after school program on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays from 3:30 pm to 6:00 pm and Wednesdays from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm.

● Ensure proper check-in/check-out process in collaboration with the extended care team as well as transitions between activities.

● Oversee enrichment classes.

● Assist in communication with parents for enrichment class information and student incidents/accidents.

● Assist with distribution of snacks.

● Maintain technological equipment (keeping iPads and phones charged) and informing Extended Care Lead if equipment is not working properly.

● Assist with school lock up procedures.

● Serve as the primary safety lead when Extended Care Lead is not present. ● Support Extended Care Lead as needed and perform other duties as assigned.

Salary:

The salary range for this role is $25-$28 an hour, commensurate with experience.
