R&D Department Technician

Position Overview:
The primary function of the R&D Department Technician is to process customer service claims and return authorizations and conduct quality assurance inspections and testing. This position also serves as a general department assistant conducting various tasks as needed related to daily department operations, product development, testing, quality assurance, and warranty.
Position Type: Full Time, In House, Hourly Position near the beach in Santa Cruz, California
Regular Duties:
Communicate with consumers, NHS domestic and international customers, sales, finance, and shipping to execute each warranty claim and return authorization from start to finish.
Process, evaluate, communicate, and document incoming claims utilizing R&D department program, policies, and procedures.
Facilitate and process incoming hard and soft goods quality assurance inspections, specification and performance inspection and testing of SFGS (semi-finished goods samples), and TOPS (top of production samples) on a seasonal and ongoing basis using the Quality Assurance program, policies, and procedures.
Organize, store, restock, or dispose of all physical product returns as necessary.
Maintain inventory of small parts & accessories for warranty replacements, test riders, and R&D department needs.
Triage, evaluate, and present solutions for quality issues as they arise during the inspection process, notifying key stakeholders and staffers at appropriate times using the Quality Assurance Issue Solving protocols.
Regular cleaning, organizing, and upkeep of R&D areas including storage cabinets.
Assist NHS department staff as needed daily.
Job Requirements:
Knowledge of skateboarding equipment and componentry required.
Skateboarding and customer service experience preferred.
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook and ability to learn additional software like Asana and NHS’s accounting and order entry program.
Must possess strong written and verbal communication skills.
Must have a strong work ethic, punctuality, time management discipline, be organized, and able to multitask in a group work environment.
Must have creative problem-solving skills, be proactive, and be self-directed.
Able to troubleshoot and provide informative & educational information about products to customers, ensuring each is satisfied with NHS products and services.
