The San Francisco Railway Museum is owned and operated by Market Street Railway, the longtime volunteer-based San Francisco non-profit promoting San Francisco’s transit history. Located just steps from the Ferry Building, the museum and gift shop serve both tourists and locals as the interpretive center for two of our most popular attractions and unique civic success stories – the historic streetcars of the F-line and our venerable cable cars that have served San Francisco for over 150 years.
Successful candidate must have an interest in San Francisco transit history and in historic preservation, have a working knowledge of Muni's transit system, with the ability to share this enthusiasm with visitors to the museum. They must enjoy communicating with donors, members, and visitors of all ages including children. Must be friendly, outgoing, neat, efficient and a motivated self-starter who works well independently and with others. Customer service/retail experience is required. The associate reports to the museum manager and is responsible for, but not limited to:
Greeting visitors, providing information to the public in person and over the phone
Handling the stocking and the sale of merchandise that supports our mission
Operating in-store POS system for guest purchases and inventory accuracy
Maintaining a clean and enjoyable space for guests of the museum and gift shop
Must be able to work independently with minimal or no supervision
Other duties as assigned by the museum manager
This is a part-time, non-exempt hourly position, approx 20-30 hours/week (6 hrs/day). We are open Tuesday - Sunday. Work hours are 11:30am-5:30pm with occasional additional hours available.
