Job Summary:

The Senior Staff Accountant is a senior-level position requiring extensive experience and education in accounting. Key responsibilities include conducting complex financial analysis, preparing detailed reports, and managing a diverse range of financial activities such as tax preparation, budget analysis, and financial forecasting. The role may also involve supervisory responsibilities and plays a crucial part in strategic financial planning, contributing to decision-making and policy development.

Qualifications:

A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance or similar business-related major with substantial experience in a similar position will be considered. Master’s level degree in Accounting or related field preferred.

3 – 5 years’ professional experience of preparing of financial statements, journal entries budgeting, and fixed assets.

Ability to work proficiently with a variety of spreadsheet programs, in-house programs, networks, and other technology related to financial functions.

Previous experience and/or familiarity of fiscal functions in a non-profit community health setting to include accounting, bookkeeping, and patient/client billing strongly preferred.

Experience with, and understand of, patient utilization management, use and costs associated with health care service industry, and managed care plans.

Demonstrates ability to work effectively with internal and external partners.

Excellent problem-solving skills required, including resourcefulness, timeliness, and technical knowledge related to resolving accounting and financial problems.

Experience with Sage 100 accounting software and Adaptive Insights a plus.

Ability to work efficiently and effectively individually or in a team environment.

Work with minimal supervision and exercise sound judgment within scope of authority.

Strong analytical, employee relations, and excellent interpersonal skills.

Ability to type a minimum of 35 WPM with minimal errors.

Must have good computer skills using Microsoft Office and the ability to use Axis departmental systems.

Must be able to use office equipment (i.e. copier, fax, etc.).

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

Preparing and completing task such as general ledger entries, JE’s, and account reconciliations. Perform in all aspects of Accounting (AP/PR/Cash/CC's/GL/JE's/Recons/audit prep/etc.).

Prepare and analyze financial reports, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with relevant accounting standards.

Monitor budgets for various departments and projects, providing detailed variance analysis and recommendations for cost control and efficiency improvements.

Participate in tax preparation and filing, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations, and manage related audits and documentation.

Conduct in-depth financial analysis to support strategic planning, including cost-benefit analysis, financial forecasting, and trend analysis.

Perform daily accounting operations, including accounts payable and receivable, general ledger entries, and bank reconciliations, ensuring accurate and timely processing.

Track and report on grant funds, ensuring proper allocation and compliance with grant requirements, and assist in preparing grant reports and documentation.

Assist in developing and implementing financial policies and procedures that align with best practices and regulatory requirements.

Provide guidance and oversight to junior accounting staff, including training, and workflow management.

Responsible as the first go to person for questions for the Senior Accountant Technician and Staff Accountant before they go to the Accountant Manager.

Coordinate and assist with internal and external audits, ensuring timely and accurate provision of information and addressing any issues identified.

Support the CFO in strategic planning by providing financial insights and contributing to long-term financial strategies.

Communicate financial information and analysis to stakeholders, including board members, executive leadership, and funding agencies, as needed in a clear and concise manner.

Provide backup for any accounting function as needed.

Participate in staff meetings, and attend other meetings and training events as assigned.

May be required to perform other related duties, responsibilities, and special projects as assigned.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

Work is normally performed in a typical clinic office work environment (and, in some cases, telecommuting sites). The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to perform the essential functions of this job successfully. Physical: Occasionally required to carry/lift/push/pull/move up to 20lbs. Frequently required to perform moderately difficult manipulative tasks such as typing, writing, reaching over the shoulder, reaching over the head, reaching outward, sitting, walking on various surfaces, standing, and bending. Occasional travel to other Axis health centers and other occasional travel will be required.

Equipment: Frequently required to use repetitive motion of hands and feet to operate a computer keyboard, telephone, copier, and other office equipment for extended periods.

Sensory: Frequently required to read documents, written reports, and signage. Must be able to distinguish normal sounds with some background noise, as in answering the phone, interacting with staff etc. Must be able to speak clearly, understand normal communication, and be understood. Must be able to see clearly and have the ability to judge distances and spatial relationships to see objects where and as they actually are.

Cognitive: Must be able to analyze the information being received, count accurately, concentrate and focus on the given task, summarize the information being received, accurately interpret written data, synthesize information from multiple sources, write summaries as needed, interpret written or verbal instructions, and recognize social or professional behavioral cues.

Environmental Conditions: Frequent exposure to varied office (medical clinic/office) environments. Rare exposure to dust and loud noises.
