Sherith Israel is a historic landmark synagogue with leaders who continue to inspire generations of members and the greater Jewish community. Position Summary:
Sherith Israel is seeking a seasoned, dedicated, and organized person with at least three years of accounting experience and excellent interpersonal skills. The part-time Bookkeeper/Accounts Manager processes accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and administers benefits. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of non-profit accounting practices and exceptional attention to detail. This position reports to the executive director and provides bookkeeping support for the synagogue, preschool and hebrew school.
Responsibilities
Process all accounts payable transactions using bill.com to ensure that all invoices and reimbursements are paid accurately, timely, and in accordance with Sherith Israel’s policies and procedures.
Monitor accounts receivable to ensure outstanding balances are collected in a timely fashion, including generating member statements and performing necessary follow up to ensure accounts are current. Resolve any account issues that arise with members.
Ensure all payables and receivables are coded correctly, including credit cards.
Process cash receipts, record revenue and receivables, working closely with key staff to ensure that revenues and receivables are recorded accurately in the membership management system.
Work with preschool and Hebrew school directors to ensure tuition payments are set up correctly.
Process payroll through Paychex, and monitor vacation and sick leave accruals for accuracy.
Work with the executive director and contracted accounting firm to ensure the accounting firm has all needed information in order to prepare monthly and year-end financial statements.
Manage employee retirement accounts/payments through Reform Pension Board (RPB).
Manage employee medical benefits through CalChoice.
Qualifications:
At least three years experience as a bookkeeper - preferably in a non-profit.
Knowledge of GAAP accounting principles.
Experience with Quickbooks, bill.com, on-line payroll systems (Paychex preferred), and CRM systems (ShulCloud preferred).
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
Excellent organizational and administrative skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
AA or BA with major coursework in bookkeeping or accounting preferred.
FTE: Part-time, 20 - 25 hours per week on-site with a flexible schedule.
Compensation & Benefits: $37.50 per hour with paid holidays, vacation and sick leave
