Scrum Master Job Description: Ideal candidate is an experienced, energetic Certified Scrum Master to become a part of a living culture shift and transformation. The candidate must be familiar with SAFe implementations and Program Increment Planning. The Scrum Master must have the charisma and leadership abilities to guide teams in following process and capturing valuable metrics. In addition, the candidate must be efficient, with little direction, in removing obstacles and impediments, ensuring that Features are delivered on time. You will also help remove obstacles and foster an environment for high-performing team dynamics, continuous flow, and relentless improvement to create value in the value streams.

Required Skills
  • Minimum 2 years Scrum Master experience
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written).
  • At least one Agile Certification; CSM, CSP, CSPO, CST, CEC, CTC, SP, SA; equivalent or higher.
  • SAFe and/or DevOps implementation experience.
  • Participation in at least 1 Program Increment
  • Self-Motivated; can take appropriate actions with little to no direction.
  • Familiar with and able to create and track standard Agile Metrics (burn downs, feature tracking, velocity, etc.)

Responsibilities:
  • The Scrum Master role is one of a servant leader. The Scrum Master, as a subject matter expert and agile leader on the team, provides guidance and leadership, and coaches teams the team in agile practices and processes, to include transparency, built-in quality, alignment and the proper writing of User Stories and Acceptance Criteria, using the latest, agile standards.
  • Organizes and facilitates ALL Team Events, per SAFe doctrine, including but NOT LIMITED TO:
    • Iteration Planning and Kick-Off Ceremonies
    • Daily Stand-Up Meetings
    • Iteration Reviews (System/Solution Demonstration coordination based on well written Acceptance Criteria)
    • Retrospective Meetings (includes capturing improvement plans for the team)
    • Backlog Refinement Meetings (ensuring teams are preparing one PI in advance)
  • Ensures Agile Tools and Metric Workbooks are continuously kept up to date (as close to real time as possible, daily) to allow for management decisions in a moment's notice; this includes clean up activities being done daily, iteration planning and review (close out activities) and all team level reports are accurate and fully transparent.
  • Tracks Team Velocity and Trends; Keeps Records of the teams performance; at a minimum maintains records and burn downs for at least the last three (3) Program Increments and is well versed in the team's strengths, weaknesses, and delivery status.
  • Assists the Agile Team in setting attainable goals for growth and maturity
  • Assists the Agile Team in making appropriate commitments through the use of historic metrics and capacity planning
  • Reviews User Stories and teaches the Product Owner to write user stories that meet the INVEST criteria; scored with a minimum of 8/10 points based on standard, internal evaluation criteria.
  • Coaches the team to achieve "Single Part Flow"
  • Tracks and analyzes team trends for the purpose of predictability as it relates to support of Releases
  • Captures metrics related to Feature Percent Complete ; Planned v. Actual and Impediments or Obstacles; ensuring the integrity in all metrics related to the Agile Team
  • Provides team progress reports in an effort to support the ART/Portfolio Program Report; ART Sync, SoS, etc
  • Identifies team inefficiencies and provide coaching to help the team progress to becoming a high-performing agile team
  • Reviews User Stories and teaches the Product Owner and team to write user stories that meet the INVEST criteria; conducts quality checks and grades user stories using NMCI User Story Rubric, on a scale of 1-10, 10 being the highest
  • Maintains the Team's Risk Dashboard and removal of impediments and/or mitigation of risks in advance
  • Coaches team to continuously grow percentage of automation or automated testing and tracks the growth
  • Provides tracking of team's Technical Debt and assists the PO in setting goals to drive down technical debt
  • Scrum Master Communities of Practice (CoP); Supports and assists with the maintenance of Scrum Master process documentation as a community; includes participation, development of processes, templates, artifacts, training materials, and lessons-learned. Participation is tracked by the SM CoP Lead assigned
  • Assists teams with the methods to prioritize and resolve defects/bugs
  • Fosters an environment of open communication among the team to raise issues and impediments often and earl
  • Responsible for immediate escalation and growing or maintaining the team's sense of urgency
  • Important Key Note: A Scrum Master is a leader and coach for the team. The Scrum Master is responsible for the growth and maturity of the team as it relates to agile practices and forming strong, productive habits.
