Position Overview:
We are looking for a dedicated and hardworking Seafood Helper to join our team at an new Asian Market on a temporary part-time basis. This contractor position involves assisting with the daily operations of the seafood department, focusing on various fish and seafood products. The ideal candidate will have a strong attention to detail, excellent customer service skills, and an understanding of seafood handling practices. A positive attitude, dedication, and a customer-oriented mindset are essential for success in this role. Prior experience handling fish is a plus, but we are willing to train the right candidate.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist with the cleaning, cutting, and packaging of various fish and seafood products according to market standards.
Help maintain the organization and cleanliness of the seafood section, ensuring products are stored and displayed properly.
Provide excellent customer service, answering customer questions, and offering recommendations for various seafood options.
Ensure that all seafood products are fresh, properly labeled, and rotated according to freshness standards.
Assist with receiving and unloading shipments of seafood, checking products for quality and freshness.
Maintain proper hygiene and sanitation in all seafood processing and storage areas.
Support the Seafood Manager in inventory management and stock control.
Follow all safety procedures related to the handling and storage of seafood products.
Assist in preparing fish for cooking demonstrations or special promotions, if applicable.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Seafood Manager.
Qualifications:
Previous experience in a seafood department, butcher shop, or food handling environment preferred but not required.
Knowledge of various fish types and seafood handling procedures is a plus.
Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Good attitude, dedication, and a customer-oriented mindset.
Ability to lift and move heavy boxes or containers of seafood.
Attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high-quality standards.
Must be available to work weekends and have a flexible schedule to accommodate the needs of the department.
Able to work 25 to 35 hours per week, including weekend shifts.
Prior experience handling fish is a plus, but we will provide training for the right candidate.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand for extended periods and perform physical tasks such as lifting, bending, and reaching.
Comfortable working in a refrigerated environment for extended periods.
