Our purpose-driven ethos provides team members with opportunities to contribute, develop, and belong.PURPOSE OF THE JOBThe purpose of the ML Data Scientist III is to lead the delivery of advanced analytics across the enterprise. This role supports business decisions by providing insights that drive revenue growth, reduce expenses, or enhance customer experience. This position will be vital in defining the operating model for analytics solutions development, including frameworks for experimentation and measurement, standards for engineering and modeling, and delivery methodology. This role will collaborate closely with business partners across the enterprise in Underwriting, Claims, Finance, Actuarial, HR, Law and Technology.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESExecutes end to end advanced analytics to drive insights into business performance optimization.

Collaborates with business stakeholders and technology to develop a thorough understanding of business problems including identification of metrics that indicate success and priority scoring.

Collaborates effectively with data engineering teams to ensure that internal and external data pipelines are constructed to support sophisticated data models and products.

Recommends UI, workflow, and process improvements to business partners and technology teams to elicit cleaner and more reliable data.

Evaluates complex business and system requirements to create detailed business user requirements, system documentation, workflow procedures, and data modeling.

Partners with and guides other data scientists to identify and develop the best fit-for-purpose analytical solution, which may be in-house or a 3rd party offering.

Develops a strong understanding of the business issues and data challenges of the organization to drive meaningful insights.

Identifies and measures levers that impact essential metrics; communicate ongoing and one-time next steps to business stakeholders.

Develops and presents analytics and metrics to improve processes and provide data-driven forecasts of potential costs, risks, and profits of new business initiatives.

Triages ad-hoc report and analytics requests across multiple business areas and for high impact enterprise-wide projects.

Designs and maintains engineering, modeling, and delivery standards.

Develops and maintains standards for versioning, programming (primarily Python and SQL), and developing reusable analytical solutions.

Recommends and continuously improves frameworks for prioritization, experimentation and hypothesis validation.

Researches and recommends emerging AI and ML approaches for use in automating business processes or delivering analytics solutions.

Stays up to date on industry and market trends to identify relevant internal and external data sources.

Works closely with IT Security and Data Governance to ensure that analytics practices meet data security, privacy, and quality policies.

Contributes to development of AI and ML internal policies and ensures Enterprise Analytics team is compliant with applicable regulations.

Acts as an escalation resource and subject matter expert for the department.

Trains staff on project deliverables and acts as a resource for colleagues in the department to answer questions and solve highly complex problems.

Develops and implements project plans within the department and is accountable for ongoing project activities and objectives of the team.

Participates in the performance management process of members of the team and provides input and recommendations to senior leaders.

Provides training materials, documentation, and suggestions to staff concerning data models and solutions.

Work with and mentor junior analysts on how to use more advanced methods and solve challenges.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIESThis role does not have supervisory responsibilities.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university required with a major or emphasis in Mathematics, Computer Science, Statistics, Physics, Electrical Engineering or related field and a minimum 7 years of related experience in a technical discipline; OR Master’s Degree in a related field and a minimum of 5 years of related experience; OR a PhD in a related field and a minimum of 2 years of related experience.

Insurance industry experience preferred.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONSNone required.KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

Strong knowledge and experience with Python and/or R.

Demonstrated knowledge and experience with statistical and machine learning algorithms.

Experience with one or more of the ML platforms: TensorFlow, PyTorch and/or Keras.

Experience developing analytical models in an agile methodology.

Knowledge of databases and database methodology

Knowledge or experience with: SQL Server, Snowflake, Alation, Workday, and Salesforce.

Knowledge of medical data a plus.

Experience with model deployment a plus.

Knowledge in one or more of the following areas is a plus: Casual Inference, Anomaly Detection and/or modern Natural Language Processing techniques.
