Consulting Utility Forester - North San Diego CountySan Diego, CA, US, 92123Position OverviewWe are currently looking to add a dynamic UVM Technician to our passionate team of environmental professionals.Job DutiesThe Utility Vegetation Management (UVM) Technician will inspect distribution utility right-of-ways and access to Right-of-Way (ROW) areas, for compliance with state clearance standards. Identify needed tree and brush control work and provide info to line-clearance crews. Document work using hand-held computer. Notify property owners of pending work on their property. Audit work completed by contractors. Discuss and negotiate line-clearance crew access issues. Special projects as assigned. Must be willing to work nights, weekends, holidays and storms as needed.QualificationsEducation and Qualifications:An individual must be able to perform each essential job duty consistently and satisfactorily. The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Professional or Collegiate Practical Tree Work Experience (including Collegiate Climbing Classes, Forestry Club Operations, Production Climber, Groundsman, or Lift Operator, etc).
Proficiency with local Tree Identification and Tree Physiology. ISA Certified Arborist or ability to obtain in 6-12 months. Commercial Pesticide Applicator’s License.
Current Driver’s License and Driving Record in good standing.
Proficient working knowledge of computers. Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, PowerPoint.

Work with major electric/gas utility system and address its forestry needs
Inspect utility rights of ways and identify vegetation incompatible with state and federal
regulations
Collect and enter data on handheld devices, follow maps and use GPS navigation
Communicate with landowners regarding work on or near their property
Assess all terrain, habitat, and environmental conditions
Coordinate with project managers, planners, and vegetation crews

ISA Tree Risk Assessment Qualification (TRAQ)
ISA Utility Specialist Certification
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Clean DMV driving record and ability to drive and operate a 4x4 vehicle on rough roads
ISA Certified Arborist Certification
And
Two or four year degree in horticulture, forestry, urban forestry, environmental science or a related discipline
or
Has more than 1 year of utility vegetation management experience or similar experience in a related field (tree work industry, landscape professional)
