Job Description

To enable Guardant Health to lead the disruption of cancer, a Guardant360® assay development team is seeking a highly motivated, Senior Scientist to develop and validate cutting edge Guardant360® genotyping assays for advanced stage cancers. You will work closely with scientists and process engineers on the team as well as cross-functionally with members from bioinformatics, operations, software, quality, and regulatory affairs. You may be hands on in the lab and will design, implement, and validate novel assays for cancer treatment selection. You will be expected to drive cross-functional projects and meet timelines. The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, proven track record of NGS assay development, experience with assay validations, and a deep technical understanding of NGS assays and NGS data analysis.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design, execution, analysis, and documentation of hypothesis driven experiments to develop innovative NGS-based oncology assays
  • Have ownership of assay development deliverables within a cross-functional team including process engineering, operations, bioinformatics, and software.
  • Explore new technologies to drive assay improvements and develop new assays
  • Document product development requirements, development reports, SOPs, and validation results
  • Be highly committed to deliver results in a fast-paced and dynamic start-up organization within Guardant Health
  • Present data, proposals, and progress in various forums and to technical and non-technical audiences

  • Mentor junior members of the team and be committed to helping foster the scientific growth of the team

Qualifications

  • 6+ years’ experience in development and validation of sequencing-based genomic assays in industry
  • Deep technical understanding of nucleic acid chemistry and NGS sequencing technologies
  • Strong data analysis skills and extensive experience with NGS data analysis tools such as Python or R
  • Demonstrated success in a fast-paced, dynamic, and result-oriented work environment
  • High attention to detail, with the ability to create clear and concise technical documentation
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and communicate complex information in a clear and concise manner to cross-functional audiences

· A highly motivated self-starter and innovative problem solver

  • Consummate team player: demonstrated ability to contribute in an environment where numerous inputs are required to accomplish complex goals

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience developing DNA or RNA NGS assays from a variety of source material in support of liquid biopsy assay development.
  • Experience with epigenomic assay development including DNA methylation
  • Experience with assay development for automated liquid handling platforms

Education:

Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry or related field, or equivalent work experience


Additional Information

Employee may be required to lift routine office supplies and use office equipment. Majority of the work is performed in a desk/office environment; however, there may be exposure to high noise levels, fumes, and biohazard material in the laboratory environment. Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
