Maxar is currently seeking a Communication RF Systems Engineer to join our Communication Systems Engineering team in Palo Alto, CA. We are looking for a self-motivated engineer who can make an impact in a team of engineers who generate design requirements, spec flow, Preliminary Design Review (PDR), Critical Design Review (CDR), test requirements and validation for the communications payload of the satellite.

Essential Functions:
  • Leads a team of engineers to deliver communications payloads compatible with the host spacecraft within available financial and schedule resources
  • Establish contractual compliance through on-ground and in-orbit spacecraft testing
  • This position requires you to collaborate with engineers from most of the other engineering disciplines to produce the company's satellite product. In addition, with the high level of accountability, it offers direct visibility from various levels of management both internal and external
  • Provide original solutions to complex technical problems
  • Performs requirement verification analysis
  • Analyzes and resolves complex operational issues/problems and implements corrective actions
  • Leads system level tests and assists in development and definition of a spacecraft integration and test program
  • Develops methods, standards, plans, and procedures for RF system engineering tools, tests and operation documents
  • Conducts Engineering Review boards and technical briefings
  • Monitors and manages technical, cost and schedule performance on internal efforts of moderate size and complexity

Scope & Supervision:
  • Receives broad assignments with little supervision
  • Directs efforts of personnel assigned to assist with projects or programs
  • Provides functional guidance to other engineers regarding RF components and/or RF systems
  • Works on complex problems where analysis of situations or data requires an evaluation of tangible and intangible variance factors such as cost, quality, reliability, manufacturability impact to schedule, and process improvement
  • Exercises independent judgment in developing methods, techniques, and evaluation criterion for obtaining results
  • Represents the company to customers or vendors when finding solutions to technical problems

Minimum Required Education, Experience & Technical Competencies:
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, mathematics, physics or STEM related field. 4 additional years of experience may be substituted for a degree
  • 8+ years of RF related work experience (6 years with MS degree, 4 years with a Ph.D)
  • Advanced understanding of mathematics and physics as they relate to electrical systems and components
  • Understanding of and proficiency in the use of computer aided design tools such as Microwave Office, Advanced Design System (ADS), or Ansys HFSS
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Advanced degrees in a specialized field of engineering or science desirable
  • Proficiency with C, VBA, Matlab or Python desirable
  • Experience working with software defined radios or software defined modems
  • Experience working with field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs)
