DRIVER JOB ANNOUNCEMENT (FULL-TIME)

ABOUT US:

Partnership for Children (PFC) is a private, non-profit organization whose mission is to increase access to medical care for children living with serious illnesses and to support their families. PFC serves children and families throughout Monterey, Santa Cruz, and San Benito Counties.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Driver plays a vital role in PFC’s mission by providing safe, compassionate, and reliable transportation to medical care for children living with serious illness and their family members, transporting from homes throughout our service to and from medical appointments primarily in the Bay Area, as well as to hospitals and clinics in our local communities. This position requires reliability, flexibility, and a calm, supportive demeanor. Some early morning, evening, or weekend rides may be required. Drivers are also responsible for maintaining the safety and cleanliness of program vehicles. During times of low ride volume, drivers may assist with deliveries of essential items (e.g., groceries, diapers) and other program support tasks.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Primary Responsibilities:

Provide safe and reliable non-emergency medical transportation for children living with serious illness and their family members in a PFC vehicle.

Ensure timely arrival and departure for all scheduled rides.

Provide courteous, compassionate, and culturally responsive service.

Wait near hospitals and clinics during medical appointments (typically 1-5 hours).

Monitor and maintain vehicle cleanliness, routine maintenance, and refueling.

Use dispatching software and a smartphone or tablet to receive and track ride assignments.

Maintain accurate mileage and trip logs, as required.

Follow all organizational transportation protocols and applicable state driving laws.

Ride Process Example: Pick up a PFC vehicle at our Salinas office → Drive to family home → Transport family to medical appointment → Wait during appointment (may range from 1–5 hours) → Return family home → Return vehicle to PFC’s Salinas office. Ride durations vary from 2 to 12 hours.

Secondary Responsibilities (as time allows):

Deliver groceries, diapers, and other practical supports to families.

Assist with organizing program inventory or office storage.

Provide support with program activities or at community events.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

High school diploma or GED.

At least 21 years of age .

Bilingual in Spanish (required).

Valid California Driver’s License with at least 5 years of licensed driving experience.

Clean driving record:

o No more than one moving violation in the past 12 months.

o Fewer than 4 points on current record.

o No DUI convictions unless expunged.

Must be insurable under the PFC’s commercial auto policy.

Enrollment in California’s DMV Employer Pull Notice (EPN) Program (PFC will enroll).

Ability to pass a background check.

Access to internet and comfort using basic apps or mobile tools.

CPR/First Aid Adult-Pediatric Certification preferred.

2-3 professional references (non-relatives) required.

Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and uphold family privacy.

Sensitivity to the needs of families from diverse cultures and backgrounds.

Emotional resilience when working with individuals experiencing stress, illness, or crisis.

Ability to follow directions, maintain boundaries, and represent PFC in a respectful and professional manner.

SALARY & BENEFITS:

$20.00 per hour

$20 meal stipend for rides longer than 6 hours and 12 hours

30+ hours per week

Non-exempt, hourly position (eligible for overtime pay)

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

Ability to sit and drive for extended periods of time (up to 6–8 hours per day).

Ability to enter and exit a standard vehicle frequently and assist passengers with entering/exiting when needed (without lifting or transferring clients).

Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds (e.g., grocery bags, car seats, supply boxes).

Sufficient hand, foot, and eye coordination to safely operate vehicle controls.

Ability to read maps, follow GPS, and use a mobile or tablet device while parked or in hands-free mode, in accordance with California laws.

Must remain alert, focused, and calm during drives and while waiting.

Occasional exposure to outdoor weather conditions during travel, including pickups, drop-offs, driving, and deliveries.
