Vin By the Sea is a new wine bar and restaurant opening in the heart of Carmel-by-the-Sea, specializing in 'Big Wines & Small Plates' offering an elevated yet approachable dining experience that celebrates both California + European wine culture with perfect chef inspired bites.

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced AGM with advanced wine credentials (sommelier or equivalent) to join our leadership team. This role combines operational management with wine expertise, requiring someone who can both ensure smooth daily operations and support a wine program that complements our culinary offerings while supporting overall business management.

Key Responsibilities

Management Duties:

Assist the General Manager in daily operations, including staff supervision, scheduling, and inventory management

Ensure exceptional service standards are maintained throughout the establishment

Handle guest relations, including resolving concerns and building regular clientele

Participate in hiring, training, and performance management of service staff

Assist with ordering, receiving, and maintaining proper stock levels

Sommelier Duties:

Develop and maintain an engaging, diverse wine program featuring California wines and international selections

Train staff on wine knowledge, tasting notes, food pairings, and proper service techniques

Conduct regular wine tastings and educational sessions for staff

Create compelling wine descriptions for menus and promotional materials

Build relationships with wineries, distributors, and importers

Lead wine tastings and special events for guests

Recommend wine pairings that enhance our culinary offerings

Manage wine inventory, storage conditions, and cellar organization

Qualifications:

Certified Sommelier credential (Court of Master Sommeliers, WSET Level 3, or equivalent)

Minimum 3 years of restaurant management experience

Extensive knowledge of California + European wines

Proven ability to support and manage a successful wine program

Strong leadership skills with experience supervising service teams

Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities

Proficiency with POS systems and inventory management software

Passion for creating exceptional guest experiences

Flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays

Preferred Qualifications:

Advanced Sommelier certification

Background in restaurant opening procedures

Familiarity with the Carmel/Monterey Peninsula market
