Job Title: Maintenance Technician

Reports to: Facility Manager

Job Type: Part-time 20-25 hours per week. Weekends, evenings required.

Salary Range: $20-25/HR

ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW

Sunset Cultural Center (SCC) is a nonprofit organization founded in 2003 to manage the historic Sunset Center in Carmel-by-the-Sea. What began as a public school in 1926 has been transformed into a state-of-the-art performing arts center. Under the mantle of Sunset Presents, we bring a wide range of world-class performances and live events. We pride ourselves on programming a lineup with diversity, sophistication, and star power. Sunset Center is home to resident companies Carmel Bach Festival, Carmel Music Society, Chamber Music Monterey Bay, and Monterey Symphony. SCC also programs no-cost community outreach programs and administers an acclaimed Arts Education Program. We are filling the Maintenance Technician position to enhance our Facilities Department.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Maintenance duties include but are not limited to:

- Receive direction and execute tasks as assigned by the Facility Manager.

- Initiating and completing setups as directed by various staff members, dependent on event scheduled. Setups

typically include tables, chairs, A/V equipment, and other equipment as needed.

- Assist Facility Manager in conducting inspections of buildings and grounds to identify maintenance and repair

requirements/needs

- Install and handle with care all displayed art in our Marjorie Evans Gallery in accordance with artist preferences and

SCC practices

- Perform general repairs that do not require a specialized technician. Examples may include plumbing and electrical

tasks, repairing drywall, painting, and repairing doors and other building fixtures. For repairs requiring a specialized

technician, report them to the Maintenance Manager for coordination of service.

- Assist Facility Manager in the performance of upgrade projects to enhance the appearance and function of the

facility

- Respond to urgent facility needs during events; requests may come from clients and/or SCC staff

OTHER DUTIES:

- Monitor meeting room schedule to ensure setup and breakdown requirements are met according to client needs in a

timely manner

- Prepare rooms with furniture and equipment for meetings and other events as assigned

- Execute parking requirements for special events and ADA requirements/needed

- Provide access to facility for clients, vendors, City staff as needed

- Perform basic cleaning tasks to interior and exterior spaces throughout the facility

- Ensure safe execution of services and safety of our patrons

- Demonstrate strong organizational and customer service skills

- Perform building security checks as needed

- Maintain an OSHA 10 training certification

- Provide excellent customer service to all patrons, campus visitors, partners, donors, and community members

- Perform other duties as assigned by the Facilities Manager and/or Events Manager

QUALIFICATIONS:

- Must be reliable, dependable, responsive, professional and able to arrive to work on time as scheduled

- Must be able to follow instructions from supervisor and/or other staff

- Knowledge of general carpentry, basic plumbing, basic electrical, painting and/or general repairs preferred

- Ability to use hand tools and power tools

- Excellent organizational and time management skills

- Must be able to use Microsoft Teams to view schedule, communicate with colleagues and follow up on internal

requests

- Must be able to speak, understand and read English (fluency is not required)

- Ability to maintain high professionalism when working with labor crews and interacting with clients on site.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

- High school diploma or equivalent required

- Related experience in a commercial facility preferred

- On-the-job training offered

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: This position will require regular sitting, standing, walking, and lifting of supplies (50 lbs.) as needed. Applicants must be able to physically climb ladders, bend, and/or crawl into small or awkward spaces. Applicants should expect prolonged periods of standing and walking, to include stairs and ramps. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Sunset Cultural Center staff operate in a theater and administrative office across a large (two square block) campus. Regular expectations for evening and weekend hours are required as dependent on our event schedule and business needs.

BENEFITS: Part-time staff (less than 30 hours per week) enjoy the following benefits: 40 hours per year of up-front sick time, 11 paid holidays, and a small cell phone stipend per pay period.
