The Facilities Grounds Worker is responsible for the general maintenance of the grounds, athletic fields and gardens at the school. The Facilities Grounds Worker provides support to the Facilities team during renovations, landscape projects and sustainability projects. This position reports to the Facilities Supervisor under the Director of Facilities and Sustainability.
Responsibilities:
- Daily clean up of exterior areas of the buildings, especially playgrounds, sport courts and the students lunch areas.
- Maintain lawns, gardens and turf on athletic fields.
- Advise and train custodial personnel in power watering procedures, operation and setting of automatic sprinkler controllers, and maintenance of lawn sprinkler systems.
- Clean up of the front exterior of the Campus and maintain gardens (Street side)
- Maintain weekly control of student agriculture plots and assist in preparation for educational programs.
- Soil cultivation, digging, forking, mulching, watering, raking, weeding, pruning, bed preparation and planting.
- Maintain all campus roofs and rain gutters clean on a consistent service schedule.
- Assist with the initial marking and over marking of the sport pitches, running tracks and field events.
- Maintain synthetic athletic fields according with their own service specs and products.
- Light maintenance work in all trade areas including but not limited to plumbing, electrical, HVAC, drywall, painting.
Requirements:
- Minimum Education: High School Diploma.
- Minimum Experience Required: 2-3 years work experience.
- Skills Required: General Gardening skills, basic plumbing and irrigation systems.
Physical Requirements:
- Mental alertness to ensure safe and accurate completion of work activities.
- Ability to use a wide range of horticultural machinery and powered hand tools.
- Primarily works outdoor (regardless of weather condition) and also inside the buildings.
- Ability to lift materials weighing up to 70 lbs. and ability to drive school’s vehicles.
