Reporting to the Director of Fabrication, Lead Metal Fabricators are responsible for the fabrication, installation, and handling of custom projects in addition to the physical shop space/metal shop. The Lead Metal Fabricator will work closely with the Foreman, Lead Carpenters, other department leads and Project Managers to make sure they meet the established quality standards and timelines of all projects. They must have knowledge of fabrication specific to special events, staging, theater and retail displays, ability to interpret technical drawings and experience leading a crew. Material Purchasing and metals inventory management will be a key component in streamlining the daily operations of the Metal Fabrication Department.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Manage all welding projects
Directly supervise, lead, train and develop employees within department
Assign work duties to maintain schedules
Oversee the preventative maintenance of all operating equipment in department
Ensure production, quality, and time requirements are met in a cost effective manner
Maintain discipline to procedures, in accordance with safety, quality, engineering, human resources, and finance department guidelines
Oversee all applicable department rules and regulations
Order material and equipment when needed
Ensure the attainment of all productivity goals
Perform in-process inspection and Quality Assurance of all work coming out of the welding department
Monitor volume of production, record material usage and stocking requirements
Oversight of department consumables inventory planning and purchasing
Develop growth plan of the department with Foreman and Director of Fabrication
Constantly seek ways to improve efficiency, quality and cost control
Support company culture initiatives
The ideal candidate will have:
5 years experience in metal fabrication, 3 years experience in events/scenic or related fields preferred.
Extensive knowledge of materials, tools and machines.
Minimum 1 year of management experience or leading a team
Able to train and coach staff on a regular basis
Must be able to provide written reports and feedback
Must be organized, detail oriented and team driven
Must be flexible and adaptable to constant change
OSHA 10 Certification a plus
Willingness to work overtime, nights, and weekends when necessary to deliver the project on time
