This is an at-will, temporary, part-time position.THE DEPARTMENTThe Department of Community Development delivers a wide variety of programs and services to help create and maintain more safe, sustainable, and livable neighborhoods. The department is comprised of five bureaus: Building and Safety, Code Enforcement, Housing and Neighborhood Services, Planning, and Administrative and Financial Services. Our staff of more than 200 works tirelessly to serve the community through an array of policies and programs, including land use and development, affordable housing, environment and historic preservation, neighborhood improvement, and construction standards and safety. We are dedicated to making a positive difference in our role to help transform Long Beach into a model urban community that honors its past and embraces the future. THE POSITION The Executive Office's Communication Division is seeking a professional, self-motivated and creative intern to help improve the Department's social media engagement and digital presence by assisting in the design, development of video/visual and multi-media content. EXAMPLES OF DUTIESThis position will:

Support the planning, preparation and scheduling of creatively produced social media posts.

Assists with the scripting, shooting, and editing of photography/videography for the development of short videos, reels and other imagery.

Assists with developing commemorative themes and creative program campaigns for social media as well as for LinkLB, the LBCD website and other digital platforms. Helps monitor public feedback/inquiries.

Assists with special event planning and production.

Provides graphics support for and assists with the writing/copyediting/prooing of marketing and program materials.

Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS TO FILEEDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Currently enrolled in a graduate program with a major in Public Relations , Communications, Telecommunications/Film, Media Arts , Journalism or a related field from an accredited college or university with a GPA of 2.0 or higher OR

Recently graduated (less than one year since graduation) from an undergraduate or graduate program with a major as described above from an accredited college or university with a GPA of 2.0 or higher.

Understanding of an experience in conceptualizing/planning strategies for social media messaging and stories.

Creating /posting and engaging with government-appropriate social media content.

Analyzing social media trend and data and collaborating in a teamwork setting while also working independently as needed.

Familiarity with special event planning/production is desired.

Familiarity with photography/videography concepts and copywriting-editing and prooing practices.

Interest in pursuing a career in government/public service.

Ability and maturity to work collaboratively and cordially with others as well as independently with limited supervision.

Ability and passion for learning new technologies.

Good time management, flexibility and reliability to accomplish tasks in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite computer programs (Word, Excel, Access, SharePoint, Teams and PowerPoint) and Adobe Creative Cloud.

Strong knowledge of social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Adept/skill-full with photo/video editing applications.

Willingness to learn new tools and programs.
