This position is part of the EO/IR Mission Systems team within BR&T. The focus of this team is to provide next-generation capabilities to Boeing and its customers through the development of cutting-edge sensor systems, and the key technologies that enable those systems. Systems range from airborne EO/IR systems to space payloads. The team is focused on providing complete solutions, including systems engineering, optics design, algorithms, software development, FPGA/firmware development, and electronics. As part of BR&T, the primary focus is on prototype systems and demonstrations, so we're looking for people who like to try new things, and aren't afraid of a challenge!

We are seeking system engineers in Huntington Beach, CA to lead the systems engineering for FPGA Firmware and Software supporting prototype EO/IR sensing systems for airborne and space platforms. Candidates should have an experience with all phases of FPGA/firmware and software development, including creation and tracking of requirements, development of FPGA/firmware/software documentation covering architecture, algorithms and interfaces, FPGA/firmware/software configuration management, and development of test and verification plans.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship

Position Responsibilities:
  • Applies an interdisciplinary, collaborative approach to lead activities to plan, design, develop and verify complex lifecycle balanced system of systems and system solutions.
  • Leads others to evaluate customer/operational needs to define system performance requirements, integrate technical parameters and assure compatibility of all physical, functional and program interfaces.
  • Leads analyses to optimize total system of systems and/or system architecture.
  • Leads analyses for affordability, safety, reliability, maintainability, testability, human systems integration, survivability, vulnerability, susceptibility, system security, regulatory, certification, product assurance and other specialties quality factors into a preferred configuration to ensure mission success.
  • Leads, develops, maintains and identifies improvements for the planning, organization, implementation and monitoring of requirements management processes, FPGA/firmware/software configuration management processes, tools, risk, issues, opportunity management and technology readiness assessment processes.
  • Leads activities to develop and maintain full documentation of architecture, algorithms, FPGA/firmware, software and system interfaces.
  • Plans and leads research projects to develop concepts for future product designs to meet projected requirements.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skill/Experience):
  • Bachelor's, Master's or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry
  • 5+ years of experience in systems engineering for FPGA/firmware or software systems
  • 5+ years of experience with FPGA/firmware and/or embedded software design, development, debugging, and performing software integration, test, validation and verification

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
  • Experience applying systems engineering principles during the development of complex hardware/software solutions on an aerospace platform
  • Experience providing systems engineering for research and development contracts
  • Experience as a chief engineer or systems engineering IPT lead with weapons design, software avionics/avionics/electrical design, and weapons system architecture
  • Experience writing software for real-time digital signal processing for aerospace and defense applications
  • Experience working with technical teams either as an Integrated Project Team (IPT) lead or technical SME (Subject Matter Expert) on System Engineering or FPGA/Firmware/Software Engineering applications
  • Experience in developing the avionics architecture supporting FPGA/firmware/software.
  • Experience managing supplier relationships, strategic partnerships and supplier performance
  • Active U.S. Top Secret Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required). (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active)

Typical Education & Experience: Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 14 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+9 years' related work experience, Master+12 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
