OverviewShimmick is actively seeking a highly motivated Electrical Engineer Intern for employment in for employment in Huntington Beach, California . We work hard together—and with our clients—to deliver high-quality projects that are on time, on budget and beyond expectations.Internships are designed to introduce and build essential, hands on skills that differ from those attained in the academic arena and help to enhance the transition from student to professional.Interns are assigned duties that will provide a broad, well-rounded learning experience within their field of study.This job requires the completion of two years of qualified study.Electrical DivisionSince the early 1990s, Shimmick has been self-performing electrical scopes for infrastructure projects. Shimmick offers electrical, instrumentation, and process controls expertise for water and wastewater treatment; dams and locks; mass transit and rail; alternative energy; power generation and transmission; and commercial building projects. Our ability to self-perform this specialty work offers additional value and enables us to better control cost and schedule for projects with major electrical and process mechanical scopes. Our clients include municipalities, water districts, sanitation districts, transit agencies, private developers, DOTs, and USACE.ResponsibilitiesThe responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

Performing assignments that require the application of standard techniques, procedures and criteria’s to carry out engineering tasks. Assignments are designed to further develop judgment and understanding of professional and ethical responsibilities.

Exercising judgment limited to developing details of work in making preliminary selections and adaptations of engineering alternatives

Preparing engineering related calculations and developing drawings and visual aids

Assisting with field inspections to evaluate the work performed and materials used

Assisting with construction administration and documentation of deficiencies and deviations from plans

Working under supervision of a project manager or senior-level team member

Researching and compiling project information for reporting, marketing, and funding requests

Creating and maintaining centralized files for project records (including digital)

Coordinating logistics and meetings for Vice President and project managers

Attending and taking minutes for the development team as requested

Helping in the preparation of reports, including monthly development reports

Assisting with community outreach duties as needed

Attending neighborhood, community, and project meetings

Undertaking tasks as may be assigned by the Vice President or project managers

Having a clear understanding of the budget and assist in the creation of and adherence to project and development budgets

QualificationsMinimum Qualifications:

Candidates must be currently enrolled in a university program pursing a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Electrical, Mechanical, Construction Management, Civil Engineering or related field with the intent to continue enrollment after an internship.

Must have completed 2 years of study

Preferred Qualifications:

Capable of using spreadsheet, word processing and standard office software

Basic knowledge of industry standard computer software for the position (examples include software such as CADD, HCS, AutoCAD, MicroStation, GIS, Hydrologic/Hydraulic models)

A university student that has more than one year of school remaining before earning a degree preferred, these students typically are Freshmen, Sophomores, or Juniors in university. Successful Interns may be eligible to return for additional internships

Knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office Suite

strong problem-solving skills and consistent attention to detail

Ability to manage changing deadlines and work well under pressure for multiple team leaders

Work independently and effectively to prioritize multiple tasks

Highly organized with excellent time management skills

Excellent verbal, written communication, and interpersonal skills
