Assistant Service Advisor - Harper Motors

Harper Motors is proud to be one of America's oldest automobile dealerships. Established in 1912 in Eureka, California, we are a true family business. Founder, Harvey M. Harper, traveled from Arizona to Eureka with his family in a 1912 Ford Model-T to settle and begin his Ford dealership in downtown Eureka, located approximately 250 miles north of San Francisco. Today, great-grandson Trevor Harper oversees the operation that has been serving the North Coast for over 100 years. The dealership is located between the cities of Eureka and Arcata on Highway 101 along California's scenic north coast.

Harper Motors is now accepting applications for an Assistant Service Advisor in the service department. This is a full time position.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

-Assists with advising customers on the care of their cars and the value of maintaining their vehicles in accordance with manufacturers' specifications.

-Schedules service appointments. Obtains customer and vehicle data prior to arrival when possible.

-Handles telephone inquiries regarding appointments and work in process.

-Controls service drive traffic flow and parking.

-Maintains a clean and safe service drive area free of dirt, water, leaves, ice, etc.

-Ensures that vehicles are parked in assigned areas. Makes sure they are locked and all keys are marked and put away correctly.

-Greets all customers entering the service area with a friendly, upbeat attitude.

-Determines if customers coming into the service drive have an appointment. Assists in recording customer’s name, VIN, tag number, mileage, and existing vehicle damage.

-Assists with writing up customer's vehicle problems accurately and clearly on repair order.

-Test drives the vehicle with customer as needed to confirm the problem or refers to test technician.

-Refers to service history, inspects vehicle, and recommends additional needed service.

-Assists with providing a complete and accurate written cost estimate for labor and parts.

-Assists with establishing "promised time." Checks with dispatcher, if necessary.

-Obtains customer's signature on repair order; provides customer with a copy.

-Establishes customer's method of payment. Obtains credit approval, if necessary.

-Notifies dispatcher of incoming work.

-Checks on progress of repair throughout the day. Contacts customers regarding any changes in the estimate or promised time, explains cost and time requirements in detail, and gets proper authorization before any additional repairs are performed.

-Assists in reviewing repair orders to ensure that work is completed and additional work and authorization is noted. Assists with closing repair order as appropriate.

-Explains completed work and all charges to customers.

-Maintains high customer satisfaction standards.

-Implements a quality control process to eliminate comebacks.

-Minimizes comebacks by conducting periodic spot checks of completed jobs for thoroughness and quality.

-Keeps work area clean.

-Maintains a professional appearance.
