Job Title: Staff Accountant
Classification: Hourly/Non Exempt
Reports To: Finance Director
Core Hours: Monday through Friday from 8:30am to 5:00pm
Summary: Under the direct supervision of the Finance Director, the Staff Accountant is responsible for completing various administrative tasks accurately, on time, and in accordance with company policies and procedures. This position is located on-site at our Arcata headquarters and is not eligible for remote work.
Essential Duties: The essential duties include, but are not limited to the following:
General Accounting
-Records, classifies, and summarizes financial transactions and events in accordance with GAAP
-Lead month-end and quarter-end close processes
-Prepare and monitor general journal entries to facilitate regular financial activities
-Perform monthly and quarterly accounting activities including reconciliations of bank, credit card accounts, and other general ledger accounts
-Process bi-weekly and ad-hoc payroll cycles, ensuring accuracy and compliance with applicable regulations
-Prepare reports and schedules necessary for consolidated federal tax returns
-Ensure data integrity in ERP through regular review and analysis of financial reports and supporting documentation
-Support process improvement initiatives in cost accounting, expense analysis, and margin analysis
-Monitor policies and procedures and identify and suggest improvements for accounting processes
-Provide support for periodic internal and external audits
-Assist with maintenance of ERP system, including safeguarding of segregation of duties and internal controls within the system
-Performs other accounting duties, as required or requested by the Finance Director
Qualifications
Experience and Skills
-Three to five years related accounting experience
-Ability to work independently and execute decisions based on knowledge and judgment in applying accounting rules and policies
-Aptitude in organizing and prioritizing work to meet deadlines
-Strong analytical skills, creative problem solving ability, communication skills, and a personal commitment to quality
-Efficient, organized and conscientious work habits
-Maintain high degree of discretion over sensitive or confidential data
-Proficient in Microsoft Office, with advanced level of competence in Excel

Frequently required to sit for long periods of time, and occasionally required to stand for long periods of time
Dexterity to operate computer keyboard, mouse, and other devices and objects as necessary
Must occasionally kneel, stoop, crouch and twist
The employee is occasionally required to move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, attend meetings, etc.
Must be able to lift 25 pounds
Employee must adhere to all applicable Cypress Grove policies and procedures. Regular and predictable attendance is required. This position is not eligible for remote work.
