The Higher Commitment Analytical Laboratory is now hiring staff for our new cannabis testing laboratory in Nevada City, California. We are looking for motivated, self-starting team players to work in an exciting and challenging analytical lab environment. Scientists with a background in an accredited, analytical lab and/or the cannabis industry are especially encouraged to apply. Our analysts and technicians are responsible for performing the analytical testing under the general supervision of the Laboratory Director in accordance with our Quality System and SOPs. Analysts will be responsible for preparation, analysis of samples and data reporting for all testing offered by the laboratory. Analysts will be assigned to HPLC, GC/MS, LC/MS, ICP/MS and PCR instrumentation as needed. Technicians will be assigned sample preparation and general lab duties as needed. The courier is responsible for obtaining customer samples under the direction of the lab director, client relations in the field, and upholding the image and culture of the laboratory in all client interactions. The courier is also responsible for accurate sampling in the field, recording data as required, maintaining Chain of Custody and returning all samples to the laboratory in a timely manner.

Educational requirements

Analyst/Technician- Analysts must have a Bachelors degree or higher in chemistry, biology, environmental or agricultural science, and at least 1 year of relevant analytical testing job experience. Documented work in an academic lab can substitute for work experience. Technicians must have a minimum of 2 years of college with coursework in chemistry, biology, environmental or agricultural science and at least 1 year of relevant work experience.

Courier Driver- High school diploma/GED or higher

Preferred Qualifications/Duties & Responsibilities

Analyst/Technician

- Candidates with chromatography and mass spectrophotometry experience strongly preferred.

- Highly detail oriented and organized, with an ability to optimize workflows and follow lab SOPs.

- Excellent time management skills with ability to multi-task, manage changing lab priorities as required and remain calm and professional under pressure.

- Excellent mathematical, written and verbal communication skills.

- Teamwork oriented with an ability to collaborate effectively on projects and tasks with supervisor and co-workers.

- Excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills with an ability to independently gather information and develop solutions.

- Demonstrate accountability, dependability and integrity in all tasks.

- Proficiency with office and laboratory computer applications, particularly chromatography, mass spec and LIMS software applications.

- Ability to adhere to safety and Quality System protocols in an accredited and regulated laboratory environment.

- Must be at least 21 years of age.

- Successful criminal background check required for all applicants.

Courier Driver

- Follow all internal laboratory SOPs and state regulations while taking samples and driving to and from the laboratory/clients sampling site.

- Interact in a professional manner with customers during sample collection and submission.

- Strive to maximize driving route efficiency following lab directed routes were applicable.

- Maintain detailed records of samples and transportation data.

- Maintain sampling supply/equipment inventory as directed.

- Complete vehicle operational logs and minor maintenance as needed.

- Follow good documentation practices, data integrity principles, and safety behaviors in accordance with the lab Quality Assurance program.

- Promote a professional company image through exemplary customer relationship skills and service.

- Refer customer inquiries, routing or schedule change requests, and/or complaints to the Laboratory Director.

- Ensure proper sample submission and chain of custody protocols are followed at all times.

- Support other laboratory-based functions including sample intake/preparation, etc. if requested.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

Sufficient motor skills to perform a variety of routine laboratory tasks, move freely and safely from one location to another in the laboratory; sufficient coordination to collect appropriate samples accurately; dexterity to manipulate lab tools, instruments, and small equipment in a manner consistent with standards of an accredited laboratory practice; lift and move objects of at least 20 pounds.

May be required to work with a variety of hazardous materials and some exposure to noxious fumes. This job may include some extended work hours or weekend work, especially during harvest and other busy seasons. May require long periods of sitting or standing.
