Summary TERM appointment not to exceed 8 years - may be made permanent without further competition. To be eligible for conversion to a permanent appointment, employees must complete at least 2 years of current continuous service under a TERM appointment in the competitive service AND have a current performant rating fully successful/equivalent. Responsibilities Receive, authenticate, and vet visitors entering an installation. Respond to and/or contain crisis or urgent situations including accidents; man-made, biological, chemical, radiological, or natural disasters: or other incidents that could result in harm to people, property, or the environment. Control access to the installation/Federal property and restricted areas, identify security risks, and provide traffic management. Apply requirements for equipping and securing government and contractor facilities to guard against unauthorized access, identify suspicious activities and ensure continuity of operations. Operate security-related equipment {both manual and automated} or devices. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: One year of specialized experience which includes work with federal, state, municipal, or private protective organizations performing facility access control measures, granting access to persons and vehicles with appropriate authorization, operating physical access control equipment such as barriers or other tools to secure buildings or access points, safeguarding personnel, information and critical assets, preventing theft, damage and trespass through enforcement of security policy or regulation, recording visitor information to determine if appropriate authorization for access exists. Such experience must provide knowledge of protective systems and techniques. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). Acceptable experience includes service in the Armed Services or Coast Guard that involved the performance of guard duties on a regular or intermittent basis.
