Overview :

1.) The RN charge nurse reports to the Med / Surg manager. 2). The RN charge nurse is responsible for using the Nursing Process to meet the needs of patients according to the professional standards of nursing care.

4). The RN charge nurse assures that the philosophy, mission, goals & objectives, policies and procedures of the nursing department and Mercy Hospital Turner Memorial are followed.

5). The RN charge nurses responsible for the quality of care; assumes responsibility for the appropriate utilization of resources;

collaborates with medical staff and others in provision of care; is sensitive to the needs of patients, families, and fellow co-workers, plans and provides professional nursing care for patients in accordance with age specific needs, identifies cultural diversity needs (such as religions, lifestyles, beliefs, physical capabilities and cultures);

plans and provides professional nursing care for patients by assuring approbate & effective pain management; assess, report and assist any patients that present with evidence of abuse and / or neglect.

6). RN charge nurse will oversight area of specialty i.e. Surgery, Emergency Department, Med / Surgical-Acute Care Unit, Endoscopy, Post-Op care unit, specialty Care Unit, & Sterilization as assigned.

7). RN charge nurse will be in charge of scheduling patients & co-workers within specific areas. 8). RN charge nurse will be responsible for all duties assigned during normal operational hours and perform duties & responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission, values, and Mercy Service Standards.

9). RN charge nurse will perform annual review & update of policy and procedures, discuss the need for updating current recommendation for standard of care with Med / Surg manager.

10). RN charge nurse will perform monthly QA / PI review, develop, implement, re-evaluate tools to assure quality of care is being delivered.

11). RN charge nurse will maintain standards in scope of practice, adhere to Arkansas State Board for Critical Access Hospital Rules and Regulations, oversight RN, LPN, Scrub tech, CNA assigned to specialty care areas, maintain proper credentials / certification within the department i.

e. equipment and / or personnel. 12). RN charge nurse will work with specialized professional providers (Contractors, ER Physicians, CRNA, Anesthesiologist, Surgeons, & Case Management / Discharge Planner) to insure standard of care is being performed and the needs of the patients is being met.

13). RN charge nurse will assess and report safety measures for both patient and co-workers and report such measures to the Med / Surg manager.

14). RN charge nurse will attend monthly department meetings .

Qualifications :

Education : Graduate from an approved school or college of nursing.

Licensure : Hold an Arkansas license as a Registered Nurse.

Experience : Ability to be self-motivated and to work with others. Skills in leadership and communication. Knowledge and able to perform duties in all areas of nursing services.

Preferred three years minimal experience as an Registered Nurse.

Certifications : CPR and ACLS certification required. Must complete PALS & TNCC in the first 6 months of employment. NRP preferred.

Other : Competent to provide nursing care to age specific patient populations of assigned area. To ensure patient safety, it is mandatory that all licensed personnel who provide direct patient care must pass compentency testing.

The passing grade on this exam is 90% and it may be repeated one time. Failure to pass the retake may result in termination of employment.
