JOB REQUIREMENTS
Education
One year of phlebotomy preferred. More technical aspects require sufficient combination of education and experience to perform some job duties. Fulfills Federal Register section 493.1495 personnel requirements.
Experience
On-the-job training under direct supervision of qualified technicians, technologists, or peer trainers with certification by successful completion of training checklist. The more technical aspects are underlined and require the demonstrated ability to perform as a phlebotomy laboratory assistant in a clinical laboratory. There is a minimum of two years experience for technical aspects and on-the-job training under direct supervision of the technical specialist and/or shift coordinator.
Physical

Normal hospital environment. Exposure to biological hazards via venous punctures. Close eye work. Color perception. Hearing within normal range. Oral communication with patients. Operates computer terminals and printer, lab refrigerators and freezers, and telephones. Continuous standing, bending, walking. Lifting and carrying up to 10 lbs pushing / pulling up to 15 lbs.
JOB SUMMARY
Performs capillary and venous, punctures, care of the puncture site, obtains specimens from arterial lines and clerical functions. May plate microbiology specimens.
