Our history with local and regional jurisdictions and tribal governments includes plan review, field inspection, and safety consultant.Combination Inspectors are responsible for ensuring complex commercial projects are constructed per the approved plans and adopted codes, ordinances, and administrative directives of our jurisdictional clients.This includes reading, interpreting, enforcing, and inspecting from plan designs and specifications; working directly with developers, contractors, and customers to identify, document, and assist in resolving issues to gain compliance in all building codes; understanding construction methods and product applications; evaluating compliance based upon the specific conditions of each project including scope of work to be performed, nature of work, project designs, and document code requirements and deficiencies; addressing conflicts between approved documents and field construction; and maintaining review paperwork and files.Your Key Responsibilities
Read and inspect from all project documents (plans, calculations, product specifications, and other approved documents) for construction accuracy, constructability, design conformance, and code compliance.
Communicating design and code deficiencies to field and jurisdictional staff via electronic and/or written correspondence per Stantec and client procedures and directives.
Using Stantec and client-based hardware and/or software applications as instructed.
Researching and documenting technical data if required for project to ensure compliance.
Attending meetings as needed and/or requested.
Creating and maintaining internal and external inspection records.
Communicating client processes, review timeframes, and alternate means and methods.
Assisting client, Stantec peers, and customers in clarifying requirements and resolving issues.
Desired candidates prioritize customer service, integrity, and a commitment to safety.
QualificationsYour Capabilities and CredentialsKnowledge of:
International Code Council Building codes, jurisdictional ordinances and directives related to building, structural, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, fuel gas, accessibility, and energy codes and amendments as applied to various commercial projects.
Various construction materials and methods and stages of construction.
Basic computer skills and Microsoft Office at a proficient level.
Ability to:
Cooperate with internal and external Stantec clients and the public.
Read and accurately interpret plans and specifications.
Objectively interpret and consistently apply code requirements and related standards in accordance with department policies.
Interpret graphic instructions, such as blueprints, plans, schematic drawings, or other visual aids.
Comprehend and make inferences from written material.
Work safely without presenting a threat to self or others in compliance with Stantec regulations.
Must be able to: traverse uneven and climbable surfaces across project sites to perform inspections at all construction phases and perform inspections in warm and cold exterior environments.
Additional Requirements:
Must possess the following certifications: ICC Commercial Building Inspector AND at least five (3) other ICC certifications in other related ICC codes.
Driver’s license with satisfactory driving record required.
Education and ExperienceMinimum seven (5) years of experience performing field inspections on commercial projects.
