Summary: Under general supervision, repairs and maintains the wastewater collection system, responds to emergency situations and assists in the maintenance and repair of the fire suppression system.

Representative Job Duties: The list that follows is not intended as a comprehensive list; it is intended to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed, and may be required to perform additional, position-specific tasks.

Inspects, repairs and maintains the wastewater collection system including pipes, manholes and related equipment; locates water and sewer lines; flushes and repairs wastewater mains; detects and repairs leaks; repairs manholes.

Operates the jet sewer line cleaner and snakes to free plugged lines; uses CCTV camera to view lines and to identify potential problems.

Operates motorized equipment, including backhoe, tractor, jet truck, dump truck and mowers to maintain the collection system, lift stations, buildings and grounds; digs out sewer mains to allow access for repairs.

Uses hand and power tools, such as chain saws, jack hammers and air compressors to clear brush and debris, dig holes and ditches, and repair and maintain sewer lines.

Makes minor repairs at lagoons; assists plant operators with equipment repairs, as required.

Responds to emergency callouts; performs emergency digs.

Maintains and services the fire hydrant system; checks hydrants periodically to ensure that they are operational.

Cleans and maintains storm drains.

Transports equipment and materials to and from work sites.

Performs manual labor as needed.

Oversees Department of Corrections inmate labor.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education, Experience, and Certifications:

High School Diploma or GED and two (2) years of experience in construction, maintenance or repair of wastewater collection systems

State of Arizona class D driver’s license.

Must obtain an Arizona Wastewater Collection Systems Grade 1 license within one year of employment.

Certification from the Department of Corrections to supervise inmate labor or ability to obtain.
