Apply NowCity of Lordsburg, NM Chief of Police Job Announcement The City of Lordsburg, NM is seeking a progressive, community-oriented Police Chief to lead a full-service police department consisting of 9 full-time police officers and 3 non-sworn support personnel, with an operating budget of $1.551 million. The Chief directs the Police Department operations consisting of Administration, Uniform Services, Special Services, Codes Enforcement, and administrative support staff through effective planning staff management, resource allocation, program initiatives and sound fiscal practices. The City is governed by a 6-member council and a mayor. This position is subject to appointment by the Mayor and approval by the Council every 2 years after the election cycle. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in criminal justice, police administration or related field and or the ability to receive an advanced NM LEA Executive Police Certification, along with 15 years of policing experience, of which 10 years must be in a supervisory capacity or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in criminal justice, police administration or related field and or the ability to receive an advanced NM LEA Command Police Certification, along with 7 years of policing experience, of which 5 years must be in a supervisory capacity or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Expectations The Chief of Police in Lordsburg will be required and expected to do the following: Create a clear vision of goals for success of the organization; develop and execute a strategic plan to achieve desired outcomes. Be effective in using data-driven methods to reduce crime. Develop effective organizational leadership practices that provide succession planning and professional development for the police force. Increase transparency when allowed and applicable. Balance the police agency and anti-police climate, while building community trust.
