Responsibilities: (PT/FT flexibility)
- Oversee accounting department, including financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting for a higher education institution and medical clinic. Work with bookkeeper and financial aid department to manage invoicing and payables, collections and in-house financing, and financial aid.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and other applicable accounting standards relevant for Department of Education; Work with financial aid department on data and reporting; work with auditors for annual reporting.
-Ensure budget-to-actual alignment; Monitor and analyze financial performance, identifying areas for improvement and implementing corrective actions
-Work with President and attend a weekly cabinet meeting. Prepare reports to board and banks as needed.
- Develop and maintain accounting policies and procedures
- Manage the month-end and year-end close processes
- Prepare and analyze financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements
- Collaborate with other departments to provide financial analysis and support for decision-making and regulatory reports
- Lead the annual audit process and coordinate with external auditors
- Oversee A/P, A/R and taxes and payroll
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA certification preferred
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting or finance roles, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial position
- Strong knowledge of public accounting principles and practices
- Proficiency in technical accounting areas such as revenue recognition, lease accounting, and inventory valuation
- Experience with educational institution/higher ed management and revenue cycle management preferred
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in financial reporting
- Proficient in using accounting software systems; experience with Quickbooks is a plus
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including 10-key typing skills
- Ability to effectively communicate complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and develop a team, good sense of humor and collaboration
