- Works independently to collect, identify and count captures if Ips confuses in emergence cages and passive traps. Incumbent will travel to the field site once per week and collect contents of cages and traps.
- Ips beetles will be sorted from other insects and counted per sample date per trap/cage. These collections will be stored in vials and kept at the Flagstaff office of FHP. Data will be entered on a spreadsheet each week.
- Monitor uninfested pi ons at the field site for evidence of new infestation
- Under the guidance of FHP entomologists, cage newly infested pi ons.
- Expected to work one day per week unless otherwise notified. Actively participates in the safety program, assisting in identifying and mitigating hazards.
- Travels to the field site to collect cage/trap contents once per week or as otherwise directed. Contents will be sorted and counted then place in labeled vials for archiving. Vials will be stored at the local FHP office. Data entry into a spreadsheet will be done weekly.
- Notify the Forest Service of any problems encountered and work to resolve such.
- Including travel time, these duties are expected to require about 4-5 hours per week for the AZ site. Traps and cages need to be checked from early March through late November.
- Skill in following oral and written instructions to carry out assigned duties in an orderly and timely manner.
- Identifying pi on pine host trees, evidence of bark beetle infestations and pi on ips beetles.
- Careful note taking and date entry
- Safe driving
- Backcountry navigation including use of GPS.
