Alaska, Kenai peninsula, 99611 Kenai peninsula USA

Vacancy caducado!

The Pratt Museum will be hiring 1-3 gardeners to assist the Botanical Garden Curator during the 2021 summer season. This will be an intense and exciting season for the Pratt Museum gardens, as we will be restoring several of the Botanical Garden beds completely, as well as enhancing other aspects of the facility gardens. Applicants should be highly skilled in at least two of the following areas and broadly competent in the rest:

-Experience with landscaping techniques and tools, including wheelbarrows, shovels, picks and irrigation systems. This will be a manual labor position!

-Experience working all day outdoors, in any expected weather for Homer from April to November. This is an outdoor work position in its entirety.

-Experience with plant cultivation and gardening tools and techniques, including: transplanting sensitive species, bare-rooting, assessing and treating (non-chemically) pests and plant disease, dead-heading, seed-saving, bed preparation, prescribed soil construction (via amendments and structure) and managing irrigation.

-Native plant identification to species level, and familiarity with dichotomous keys and relevant local plant identification texts.

-Proficiency in correctly identifying and removing invasive plant species as well as native plants with “weedy” growth habits.

This position will be part time, 16-24 hours a week, with a regular schedule including a minimum of two 8 hour days per week.

Compensation is DOE, starting at $18/hr.

To apply, respond with a resume' and cover letter to the email reply for this post or mail a hard copy to:
