Goldbelt is an urban Alaska Native, for‐profit corporation headquartered in Juneau, Alaska, incorporated on January 4, 1974 as a result of the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act (ANCSA). Goldbelt is centered on tourism and mariculture which includes the Goldbelt Tram, opened in 1996. Goldbelt seeks to honor and preserve the Tlingit culture – its history, art, dance, legends, and the traditions of its Alaska Native shareholders.

SUMMARY

Responsible for selling merchandise or art items in a retail gift shop. You will be responsible for a large retail shop with high volume of guests and merchandise. Stocking and organizing all merchandise in a timely manner. Keeping the Shop clean and organized on a daily basis.

JOB DUTIES

Welcomes and engages customers as they enter the store.

Maintains a friendly, knowledgeable, and courteous demeanor.

Maintains in depth knowledge about our range of products.

Processes orders in a prompt manner using a POS (point of sale) system.

Promotes special sales, offers, and store loyalty program.

Explains characteristics and origin of art and merchandise to customers.

Assists with inventory such as stocking, displaying, pricing, etc.

Ensures daily that the retail shop is cleaned, fully stocked and neat in appearance.

Assists with opening and closing procedures.

Assists with training of staff when appropriate.

Operates the cash register; records cash receipt transactions.

Assumes all responsibility for gift shop bank/till.

Assists with hauling supplies to/from retail locations

NECESSARY SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

Possess a passion for delivering an outstanding customer experience.

Ability to learn about local history, people, culture, geography, etc. for the purpose of educating and sharing Alaska with our guests and facilitating sales.

Ability to meet time and attendance requirements, including holidays and weekends.

Ability to handle stress under pressure.

Ability to learn, understand, and follow verbal and written instructions and directions.

Ability to build positive and cooperative work relationships.

Cash handling skills.

Ability to work directly with the public, providing information and assistance daily.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (education, experience, skills)

Ability to successfully pass a background check.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (education, experience, skills)

High school diploma or equivalent.

Three (3) months retail sales or cash transaction experience.

Current CPR and first aid certificates.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Constant movement in/out of an aerial tramway and lift operation, cabin up/down an 1800 ft.; constant exposure to extreme heights, and periodic exposure to dangerous equipment during emergency evacuations or power failures. Constant public interaction and communication, and must be able to lift/move up to 50 lbs., constant bending, lifting, stooping is required to maintain adequate supplies. The Tram is a non-smoking facility with designated outside smoking areas.
