SOUTHEAST ALASKA FOOD BANK

The Southeast Alaska Food Bank (SEAFB) is located in a 2,400 square foot building that contains a warehouse and a food bank (store) which is used to distribute food to our 40 partner food program non-profit (member agencies) and their clients. The SEAFB is an affiliate of Food Bank of Alaska (FBA), located in Anchorage, and Feeding America, the largest hunger relief organization in America with a nationwide network of food banks that provide food security to the hungry.

Our Mission: To provide access to nutritious food for those who are without serving as a community bridge between those who want to help and those who are in need.

The Store Manager will assist member agencies as they shop, will restock shelves and freezer/coolers and front and face the store. The store manager will work closely with the warehouse manager on a daily basis. The store manager is the first line of contact for all members entering the food bank. This position also deals with the public or other groups dropping off donations that need to be properly recorded and receipts issued if applicable. The position is also responsible for managing the volunteers who are here to help with processing donations, restocking, cleaning or organizing store/warehouse areas. The position is the fist line of contact for anyone entering the food bank needing assistance on any number of fronts. The position also serves as a backup to the warehouse manager if they aren't in that day and donations need to be picked up from local stores. Overtime may be necessary but is not typical. Normal work schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm.

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Provide professional customer service at all times to partner agencies, volunteers, food donors and the general public.

Provide professional telephone service. Answer incoming telephone calls, field questions about the organization, and provide other information as needed.

Interact with SEAFB agency members, volunteers and donors on a daily basis.

Other job duties:

Assist in maintaining store / warehouse sanitation standards both inside and outside the building, which includes freezers, coolers, offices and bathrooms. Assist with snow removal when needed.

Welcome and direct on-site visitors.

Support organizational mission to end hunger.

Occasionally drive company vehicle for pick-up of donations.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Back ground in retail stocking and organization helpful.

Must be able to pass a background check.

High school diploma or GED.

Valid Alaska Driver’s License and clean driving record.

Good communication skills, both written and oral.

Good interpersonal and public relations skills.

Good basic math skills.

Detail-oriented with good organizational skills.

Able to safely perform tasks involving occasional heavy lifting up to 50 pounds.

Commitment to organizational mission to end hunger.

Physical demands:

The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, sit, and reach with hands and arms. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The noise level in the work environment is typical for a small warehouse.
