Title of Position: Resource Assistant Partnership Program Intern

Position Details:

Stewards Individual Placements (SIP) provides individuals with service and career opportunities to strengthen communities and preserve our natural resources. Participants work with federal agencies, tribal governments, and nonprofits building institutional capacity, developing community relationships, and supporting ecosystem health. SIP, in partnership with the USDA Forest Service Alaska Region – Regional Office, are seeking a Resource Assistant Partnership Program Intern. The Alaska Region Partnership, Volunteer and Service Program falls under the Recreation, Lands & Minerals Office. Specifically, the Alaska Region Partnership, Volunteer and Service Program strives to engage local communities and the broader public via partnership agreements and volunteer programs to help care for national forest lands. Their work involves a lot of outreach, communications with non-profit partners and support for field units hosting volunteers and partners.

The Resource Assistant Partnership Program Intern will assist in administering the Alaska State Fish Art contest, coordinating with the organizing partner Wildlife Forever to ensure the contest protocols are followed. The end result would be a display of children's art celebrating the connections between fish, humans and habitat posted publicly. Next, the intern will work to improve the Alaska Region Volunteer and Service Program’s social media presence by developing web-based content. Lastly, the intern will develop recreation site stories to tell the story of each area in order to garner public support. This will help ensure these sites are supported by the public with adequate fees.

Position Responsibilities will include:

Promote the Alaska State Fish Art contest broadly within Alaska educational systems

Receive and organize contest entries

Promote volunteer & service opportunities within Alaska Region

Respond to field unit needs to promote volunteer & service opportunities

Tell the story of recreation sites within Alaska Region

Solicit photos and firsthand experiences from local units

Compile accounts into concise documents

Upload stories to Recreation Fee Increase Proposal database

Provide administrative support to the Recreation Pass program, Fee program, Rec.Gov reservations system, and the Secure Rural School program

Follow up with field units to gather stories, data and photos pertaining to service work and fee proposals

Assist with volunteer and service data reporting, meeting management deadlines, grant deadline tracking, and grants/agreement-related activities

Minimum Requirements:

Area of study: Any

Level of study: Current undergrad or grad student

Must be a US Citizen and/or be a lawful permanent resident

Must be minimum 18 years old

Preferred Qualifications:

Area of study: Public Administration and/or Natural Resource Management

Skills: Communication skills; proficiency in social media; organizational skills

Experience: Volunteer/service experience

Experience Regional Office level policy, planning and funding in support of Partner and Volunteer programs in Alaska.

Engage with Forest and District-level Partner and Volunteer programs and have the opportunity to go in the field in support of service work alongside recreation-wilderness crews

Gain valuable experience interacting with local and national non-profit partners, learning how nongovernmental organizations help our federal agency steward public lands.

Training in Pinyon/Box cloud storage/file management, Volunteer.gov, US Forest Service webpage, and Microsoft Outlook/Teams, and Adobe
