Position Title: Adult Education Program Coordinator - 5% administration; 95% direct instruction
Position Description: The Adult Education Program Coordinator handles the daily operation of programs throughout the southeast region. This position is located in Juneau and delivers direct instruction to individuals and groups in Adult Education to include: math, reading, writing, science, social studies, English language test-taking strategies, GED Test preparation, computer skills, and college and career readiness skills.
Job Qualifications:
Teaching degree or B.A. degree in related field
Alaska Teaching Certificate preferred
Experience in program coordination
Ability to work with adult learners of diverse social, economic, and cultural backgrounds
Experience assessing students’ literacy level and developing individual study plans
Ability to recognize learning needs, identify appropriate resources, and instruct adults in math, reading, writing, science, social studies, English language test-taking strategies, GED Test preparation, computer skills, and college and career readiness skills
Familiarity with GED Testing and high school equivalency options
Ability to use technologies to strengthen communication, program promotion, collaboration and implementation
Position Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide oversight of all sites in the regional program: contracts, staffing, training, program promotion, outreach, and implementation
Establish staff, learning center, class, and orientation schedules
Participate in all meetings, teleconferences, and student events, as required (may require air travel)
Develop required budgets and reports
Have an understanding of budgets, allocations, and expenditures
Collaborate with internal and external partners to develop and implement Integrated Education and Training programs
Input information and review statewide database; disseminate information to instructors
Track student progress; use data to tailor instruction; monitor assessment timelines
Instruct individual and groups of students in AAE to include: math, reading, writing, science, social studies, English language test-taking strategies, GED Test preparation, computer skills, and college and career readiness skills
Administer student assessments in accordance with the state policy
Conduct student orientation to include: description of services, enrollment of students, administration of assessments, and development of individual study plans
Welcome and recruit students and respond to inquiries from potential students, parents, and referring partner agencies
Maintain student data with current information and store in a secure environment
Maintain safe, supportive, student-focused learning environments
Review and develop instructional resources, materials and strategies for teaching, both in-person and via distance
Ensure students receive coordinated services of AAE, ESL, volunteer tutoring and referral to appropriate SERRC employment and training programs and community partner agencies
Write grant applications in support of Adult Education
Participate in state and federal program monitoring
Promote programs through partner communication and social media
Other duties as assigned
