In compliance with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, a potential new employee’s salary history will not be used in compensation decisions.Job DescriptionThe National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), the world’s leading research and development laboratory for renewable energy technologies, is seeking to hire a limited-term, entry-level researcher for its Cold Climate Housing Research Center (CCHRC) in Fairbanks, Alaska.CCHRC promotes and advances the development of healthy, durable, sustainable shelter for Alaska and the circumpolar north. Through its core programs of building science research, policy research, and design, CCHRC researches and develops building and retrofit techniques, mechanical systems, and foundations that have improved the performance and affordability of homes statewide. CCHRC incorporates these technologies in demonstration homes and outreach activities across the state that reflect climate and culture.This is an exciting opportunity to join a mission-focused, interdisciplinary team working at the intersection of science, culture, and community resilience in the land of adventure.The successful candidate will be working with the Building Science Research Program on building science research and community implementation projects. The primary responsibilities include:Project management tasks including quarterly and final progress reporting;

Conducting research interviews via phone and email with homeowners, contractors, and industry experts, and synthesizing resulting information;

Research reporting and proposals;

Implementation and application of building engineering principles and concepts;

Creating and editing outreach materials to generate interest in Alaska communities;

Other duties as assigned.

.Basic QualificationsBachelor's Degree in Climate Studies, Environmental Engineering, or related fieldAdditional Required QualificationsExperience with community engagement in rural Alaska communities;

Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint;

Technical writing and editing skills;

Ability to obtain and hold Institutional Review Board training;

Excellent communication skills for working with diverse audiences via phone and email.

Preferred QualificationsProject management experience;

Educational background focuses upon climate resilience and/or adaptation;

Familiarity with the federal proposal process and experience writing grant applications;

Strong working knowledge of basic building science principles;

Excellent time management skills.
