The Alaska Carpenters Training Trust is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Training Director. This position plays a key role in connecting carpenters to rewarding career experiences and a secure future. The Training Director is responsible for overseeing and delivering a statewide training program in Alaska. Duties include managing the training office and program, maintaining financial records, hiring and managing instructors, recruiting new apprentices, overseeing public relations, and coordinating with the local unions and contractors.

In this role, you will be working with an extremely passionate and motivated team compromised of a fulltime office manager, fulltime coordinator, and seasonal instructors.

Responsibilities

Develop, implement, and monitor training programs

Provide logistical support, course development, delivery, evaluation, process measurements, and material and tool management

Coordinate with the local unions and contractors to evaluate training needs and fill skills gaps

Provide upgrade classes for journeymen carpenters in accordance with the UBC International Training Center curriculum

Recruit new apprentices and supervise apprentice admissions, registration, and class assignments

Work collaboratively with Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee

Ensure satisfactory academic progress in the areas of attendance, grades, and graduation

Manage class and instructor scheduling

Enforce the policies established by Alaska Carpenters Training Trust

Grant writing and management

Prepare and implement the training budget and maintain financial records

Oversee the creation of brochures and training materials

Oversee public relations

Lead instructor recruitment, onboarding, and professional development

Provide feedback and coaching to develop a high-performing team

Conduct staff performance evaluations

Maintain transparent communication. Appropriately communicate organization information through team meetings, one-on-one meetings, and written communication.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree preferred

Work experience as a Training Director, Training Manager or similar role is preferred

Strong planning and project management skills

Ability to develop presentations and curriculum

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking

Thorough knowledge of the construction trades and an understanding of the Apprenticeship Training Program

Strong leadership and management experience growing and developing teams

Ability to collaborate and work effectively across different organizations and teams while building trusted relationships and positively influencing others

Knowledge and experience working with labor unions and the UBC preferred

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. Also required is the ability to lift up to 50lbs, walk on uneven surfaces, open filing cabinets, and bend or stand on a stool as necessary.

Travel

This position requires travel by car or plane including overnight stays within Alaska and occasional out-of-state travel. Employee must meet TSA requirements to fly. Applicants must have a valid driver’s license and provide a copy of their driving record.

Wages and Benefits – Salary depending on experience. Health & welfare benefits through the Alaska Carpenters Trust Fund. Vacation provided.

Hours: Full-time position. Evening and weekend work will be required as job duties demand.
