Field Services Install & Repair Technician (Seasonal)

We are searching for an experienced Field Services Install & Repair Technician (Seasonal) at our Palmer Plant Bldg facility.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Nature of Work:

Installation & Repair technicians are responsible for the installation and repair of MTA services for both residential and business customers. Technicians complete service orders and repairs under the direction of the assigned Supervisor. Technicians work in Outside Plant copper and fiber facilities, and perform wiring installation and validation in residential and business settings.

Illustrative Tasks:

1. Completes service order by installing, removing and rearranging wiring and electronic equipment as required. This includes OSP facilities and working inside residences and businesses. Reporting of updated Service Order and OSP information in a timely manor.

2. Clears trouble reports as required, utilizing standard testing procedures.

3. Performs repairs and maintenance of outside plant facilities, Public Interest coinless telephones, subscriber carrier, FTTH, and XDSL services.

4. Makes minor additions or revisions to outside plant facilities as required or directed.

5. Performing central office and subscriber carrier duties as required.

6. Keeps immediate Supervisor/Foreman and dispatcher aware of status of work assigned on both a current and daily basis.

7. Reports to the immediate Supervisor substandard plant conditions which cannot be immediately corrected.

8. Checks assigned vehicle and other work equipment as to condition, possible maintenance, and repair.

9. Reports all unsafe conditions which cannot be immediately corrected to the assigned supervisor or other appropriate personnel.

10. Responsible for maintaining tools, work equipment, and testing apparatus in good working order, and properly used.

11. Performs general housekeeping at remote central offices as needed.

12. Complies with all traffic laws, safety rules, and regulations.

13. Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:

1. Knowledge of Association, and industry standards related to station installation, repair, and maintenance as well as facilities, CM8, subscriber carrier, FTTH and XDSL.

2. Knowledge of the state safety code and other safety standards as set by the

Association.

3. Ability to safely perform all work duties including the operation of assigned vehicles and the use of the associated hand tools and test equipment.

4. Ability to provide efficient and quality service within the guidelines of the

Association specifications and National Electrical Code requirements.

5. Ability to establish and maintain good customer relations through a cooperative and courteous attitude.

6. Ability to climb poles.

7. The understanding and expertise to install and maintain Analog and Digital

Subscriber services, FTTH and XDSL.

8. Ability to interpret cut sheets, service orders, schematics, blueprints and circuit diagrams.

9. Familiar with Association test equipment pertaining to outside plant.

10. Familiar with Association installation and troubleshooting procedures concerning OSP copper and Fiber, residential and small business modems, routers and wireless networking equipment.

11. Must be a "self-starter" requiring minimal supervision.

12. Knowledge of basic AC/DC theory.

13. Knowledge of Fiber to the Home (FTTH) installation and troubleshooting practices, Passive and active optical networks, Fusion Splicing.

14. Basic knowledge of home and small business networks, installation and configurations of routers and wireless Ethernet devices.

15. Installation of CAT 5/6 wiring and validation testing.

Required Qualifications:

Qualifications:

Journeyman Installation & Repair Technician is preferred. Other IBEW classifications of Journeyman Telephone Lineman, Journeyman Cable Splicer, Journeyman CO/PBX and Journeyman Wireman will be considered.

3000 hours I&R experience within the last five years is preferred. 3,000 hours experience in any of the IBEW Journeyman classifications listed in item 1 will be considered.

Ability to pass a telephony general knowledge and safety test for Telephone Technicians. Minimum acceptable score is 75%

Valid Alaska Driver's License for motor vehicles.

Must be able to safely perform physical requirements (i.e., climb poles and ladders, ability to lift 50 lbs, as listed in job analysis)

Ability to pass color discrimination test.

Must have valid first aid card; or be willing to obtain within six months from date of hire.

Demonstrate basic knowledge of AC/DC theory (as tested above).
