Advertising for a hybrid job opportunity. We would like to hire one person to split their 8 hour day between Grooming and being a Canine Swim Coach. The groomer wages are $20. per hour/ Canine Swim Coach wages are $14. per hour Thursdays - Saturdays. Our goal is to prioritize the grooming job, but have enough work to keep someone employed 8 hours a day for three days a week while their grooming clientele grows. The description of each job is below.
Experienced part-time dog groomer with good work ethic wanted for small operation located in Midtown Anchorage. Days available for employment are: Thursdays 11am-7pm, Fridays 10am-6pm, and Saturdays 9:00am - 5pm. As your grooming business expands your grooming hours expand. If you are bringing clients with you, then you could book up to 8 hours on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. In addition, as your grooming business expands, you could also book clients Wednesdays 3:30-8pm. You will be an employee, but the clients will book directly with you. We are a dog related business, so you should be able to pick up clients by being here and available. Many clients like to start with getting a nail trim. Our clients like dog groomers who are kind to the dogs and good communicators.
The groomer will be expected to be interested in growing their clientele (you should be able to get them by being here and meeting our clients, doing nail trims, and word of mouth, and we'll give your name to people who call in).
Requirements: Being nice to dogs and their owners; being a good communicator with your clients and us; 1 verifiable year of experience grooming dogs; able to do basic common pet dog grooms; passing a working interview process; ability to pass a background check; ability to lift 50 pounds; enthusiastically willing to help expand your clientele; possess a good work ethic; be willing to wear a mask while interacting with your clients and while in the building until the covid-19 risk has passed; possess your own grooming tools; and have reliable attendance and transportation.
Please make sure you are not contractually obligated to any other parties before you apply. If you are bringing clients with you we understand they are your clients. If you make the connection with the client through our facility they are considered our grooming client.
We provide: A clean, warm, pleasant environment in Midtown; electric grooming table, Chris Christensen blow dryer, raised tub (up to 135 pds), towels, some shampoos and conditioners; an 11' X 5.5' dedicated space; and some advertising assistance.
Pay scale for the groomer starts at $20 an hour. While you are not grooming, we will ask you to cross-train and assist by training to be a Canine Swim Coach at $14 an hour.
For Canine Swim Coach we are looking for someone who is geared and comfortable for working independently, reliable about showing up to work, good communicator, energetic, kind to dogs and able to communicate respectfully with their owners, knows how to read communication signals from the dogs, ready to stay busy: working with the dogs and their owners, answering phones, cleaning wash stations between dogs, maintaining pool cleanliness, doing easy computer work, operating a cash drawer/sales, and working cooperatively with co-workers.
Requirements for Canine Swim Coach: must be able to lift 50 pounds with no problem, be able to bend down and get up with no problem, generally be in good physical condition, be able to pass a background check, be able to reliably show up for work, have reliable transportation for the hours they need to be at work, must be able to wear a mask (we can provide) while at work, need to have a minimum of 1 year work experience, need to have high school diploma or equivalent, need to provide 2 references – at least one work related and because of water depth of 44” probably should be at least 5’3” tall. The priority for this job is for grooming services, so this person will need to meet all the requirements for the Dog Grooming position.
