Job Opportunities

Administrative Assistant in any AFS location. Relief position available to provide exceptional customer service and accurate and timely staff support in any of AFS’ programs as needed. Responsibilities include welcoming clients, answer and direct communications, providing staff support and general office duties. Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent and one year successful work experience including proficiency with computers. Preferred Qualifications: Associate’s degree and two years’ successful work experience in an administrative position.

Administrative Specialist in Palmer for the Administrative offices. Full time position available for an enthusiastic professional with excellent attention to detail who will provide administrative and program support to the AFS team, as well as to clients. Additionally, will oversee social media efforts for the Agency. Minimum Qualifications: Associate’s Degree in Communications, Business, Fine Arts, Human Services or related and three years’ work experience in an office setting with proficiency in MS Office applications. Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Business, Fine Arts, Human Services or related and three to five years administrative experience. Familiarity with social media platforms, such as Facebook.

Assistant Manager in Anchorage with the Child Care Assistance Program. Full time position available to coordinate services to ensure compliance with State of Alaska and AFS standards and provide case review and appropriate feedback and training. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in appropriate field. One year of social services administrative experience with expertise in office management, grant management, social service program assessment and planning. Preferred Qualifications: Master’s Degree in social services or related field. Two years of social services experience. Expertise in public assistance, child care grants management, or social service program assessment and planning.

Behavioral Health Administrator in Wasilla. Full time position available. Sustains the integrity of AFS’ Behavioral Health Treatment Center (BHTC) day-to-day operations. Ensures the financial sustainability and viability of the BHTC through management of a programmatic budget, quality assurance program, and regulatory compliance. Collaborates closely with the Clinical Supervisor to assure clients access a safe, empowering continuum of care. Supports the design and development of wrap-around services and inter-agency collaborations to holistically support AFS clients' behavioral health needs. Manages administrative staff in support of the BHTC treatment philosophy. Builds a culture of teamwork and joint accountability. Role models and contributes to collaborative, mission-driven leadership. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in business, health care administration, psychology, social work, community health or closely related field is required. Three years progressively responsible experience in clinic management and/or behavioral health administration is preferred. Preferred Education: Master’s degree in psychology, counseling, business, social work and/or health care business administration is preferred.

Case Manager in Palmer for the Family Support and Preservation Program. Responsibilities: Provide family support, preservation and/or family contact services to client families. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services, Education, Social Work, Sociology or closely related field and one year successful experience in family issues including; parenting support, parent education, child development, child management, child abuse including sexual abuse and neglect, crisis intervention and domestic violence. Preferred Qualifications: One year additional experience with a background in family mediation, working with families in a home-based setting, and a clear understanding of high-risk family dynamics.

Case Technician in Wasilla for the Work Services Program. Full time position available to provide comprehensive assessment and planning services to ATAP clients utilizing established policies and procedures under the direction of the Program Manager. Minimum Qualifications: Associate’s Degree in Human Services or closely related field or equivalent experience and two years’ experience in Social Services. Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's degree plus additional related training. Four years’ experience providing direct client services.

Job Development Specialist in Wasilla. Full time position available with the Work Services Program. Responsibilities: Provide program education and outreach to the Employment Community with a focus on creating and maintaining professional relationships with businesses and securing applicable work placement sites for program participants. Minimum Qualifications: Associate’s Degree in Education, Human Services or closely related field or equivalent work experience. Two years successful experience in job development, employment counseling, workshop facilitation and/or job seeking skill training and motivation. Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Human Services or closely related field.

Mental Health Clinician in Wasilla for the Behavioral Health Treatment Center. Full or part time positions available to provide therapeutic services to clients. Conduct mental health/substance abuse screening, assessment and treatment services to clients within various treatment modalities. Minimum Qualifications: Master’s degree in a behavioral health field and one year of behavioral health experience. Preferred Qualifications: Alaska licensure and/or CDC certification with two years of behavioral health experience.

Program Manager in Palmer for the Tobacco Prevention and Control Program. Full time position available to ensure the viability of the Tobacco Prevention Program through management of a programmatic budget and grant compliance. Responsible for the facilitation of the local tobacco prevention coalition and implementation of tobacco control policy initiatives within the Mat-Su region. Ensures an empowering and supportive participant experience. Role models and contributes to collaborative, mission-driven leadership as a member of the AFS’ management team. Coordination of community level activities for national events such as World No Tobacco Day, The Great American Smokeout and Taking Down Tobacco. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent in health, policy-making, education, social work or related disciplines and one year successful work experience in a health related or social service field. Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree preferred in social work, health, or related field from an accredited university. Grant management experience a plus.

Shelter Supervisor in Palmer for the DVSA Shelter. Full time position available to assist with the supervision of emergency shelter staff and ensuring the effective execution of domestic violence and sexual assault services to shelter residents and nonresidents, including the 24-hour crisis line. Develop, implement, and supervise life skills and support groups. Create and manage case plans that are responsive to the needs of all shelter participants. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in appropriate field and one year successful work experience in a residential setting and one year case management experience. Preferred Qualifications: Two years successful work experience in a residential setting and one year successful experience in case management as a shift supervisor.

Store Associate in Palmer at Families First Treasures Thrift Store. Part-time position available to assist the store manager in the daily operations of the second-hand store including working as a retail sales person, operating cash register, assisting customers, handling, washing, sorting, displaying and pricing all donated articles and clothing. Keep store clean and secure. Qualifications: High School Diploma or equivalent and successful work experience. Two (2) years retail sales experience and/or secondhand store experience preferred.

Substance Abuse Counselor in Wasilla for the Behavioral Health Treatment Center. Full-Time, Part-Time or Relief positions available to provide substance abuse treatment services in an outpatient program. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in counseling, human services or related field and the ability to become a qualified addictions professional within three years. Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree in counseling, human services or related field and current certification as an addictions professional (CDC II, BHA II, NCAC I, MAC).
