The Assistant Plant Manager is responsible for general supervision of all phases of plant operations including production, quality control, maintenance, receiving, and shipping. The Assistant Plant Manager strives to maximize productivity and minimize costs to fulfill the facility's potential and meet its goals, and coordinates overall daily operations, planning and long-range improvements in accordance with corporate goals and policies. Work with Plant Manager (PM), Production Manager, and Fleet Manager (FM) in all areas of operations to coordinate and schedule processing of canned, frozen, and fresh products. Manage and review with PM and QA facilities to ensure GMP’s and HAACP plans are being followed for product safety.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Directs and manages all plant operations in accordance with the facility's capacity.

Ensure compliance to all budgets and manage communication for all management and supervise performance for same.

Monitor operation expenses and research ways to reduce costs while maintaining product quality.

Work closely with the Environmental Health and Safety Manager to ensure all members of the manufacturing team are aware of safety policies to provide a safe workplace for our employees.

Procures the maximum available quality product with profit potential in accordance with the facility's production capacity.

Supervises production for quality and salability.

Establishes, maintains, and monitors production standards and procedures for product quality, recovery, labor costs, and salability.

Maximizes tender usage through proper coordination and placement.

Maintains positive fleet relations with gillnet and seine fleets to ensure consistent quality and predictable delivery volumes.

Maintains a safe and sanitary working environment.

Monitors and controls plant and area expenses and strives to maximize productivity and minimize cost.

A recruit, hires, trains, supervises, and reviews and prioritizes work for key personnel.

Follows all company safety policies and procedures.

Responds to change productively and handles other duties as required.

FRESH:

Set up processing for H/G fresh at the direction of plant manager and fresh sales.

Work with PM and production manager on managing the number of processors working during processing.

Communicate with PM regarding timing of fresh orders to hit deadlines for shipping on AML barge, AK air, and ferry schedules.

Review sales orders with PM to ensure proper product forms are produced for fresh sales.

Work with QA Manager and Production Manager to review OBI’s quality standard to ensure our fresh products are meeting quality stands for both QA and fresh sales specifications.

FROZEN:

Work with Fleet Manager and Dock Boss to ensure raw material (fish) is scheduled and being properly received.

Communicate and relay processing scheduling set by PM with Production Manager, supervisors, leads, and maintenance to ensure processing starts as directed.

Work with PM to come up with a schedule for processing different salmon species during a processing period.

Coordinate with Case Up Manager on when frozen product can and will be pulled out of the freezer.

Review with Case Up Manager orders coming from commodity sales department and coordinating the fulfillment of these orders based upon raw materials incoming from fishermen.

Coordinate with Production Manager and Plant Manager if cutting speeds in fresh market need to be slowed down or sped up depending upon prod volumes needed.

Please use the fresh market tally via hour production to ensure proper throughput is achieved.

CANNING:

Work with Fleet Manager and Dock Boss to ensure raw material (fish) is scheduled and being properly received.

Communicate and relay processing scheduling set by PM with Cannery Foreman, Production Manager, supervisors, leads, and maintenance to ensure processing starts as directed.

Work with PM to come up with a schedule for processing different salmon species during a processing period.

Work with Plant Manager to ensure key positions are filled for canning (retort operators, cannery machinists, QA for teardowns etc.)

Review can integrity paperwork generated from QA department, due can product being ready to eat. (RTE)

Work with PM and Production Manager to ensure correct number of processors are working to ensure efficient processing.

Work with Case Up Manager to ensure proper loading, sampling, and scheduling of canned product to KWL.

OFF-SEASON DUTIES:

Work with PM and Area Manager to confirm a processing plan and product mix for processing season.

Work with PM on calculating packaging needs based upon processing plan and product mix.

Work with Production Manager, Office Manager, and PM to recruit, hire, and schedule travel plans the number of processors needed as described in the processing plan for the season.

Work with PM and the plants various departments to ensure pre-season ordering is occurring on budget and scheduled for plant operations.

Assist PM with annual overhead budgeting.

OTHER IN-SEASON DUTIES:

Assist the PM with any human resource issues as directed in season.

Review daily labor (indirect and direct labor) and daily production spreadsheets to ensure recoveries are in a correct range and labor dollars are being spent efficiently.

Review and communicate in season packaging inventories to ensure the facility does not run out of materials.
